Wow....Pearl....my A!
« on: April 08, 2005, 02:33:43 AM »
There is nothing pearly I can find on this ball of mine or others I have seen in the area!  Not one bit of pearly.  And it is Darn ugly!

I had thrown this ball a while back and it was just too grabby!

So I took a look at the Details section of Columbia and saw that they listed 600 grit crosshatch(I scotchbrited) and 2000 columbia degree polish(I'm finding good results on my Columbia stuff with this setup!  I did it!

Big improvement.  While still a little grabbier than I like this ball is now much cleaner.

Went to my house shot( a harsh wet dry played with columbia's wet dry tip of 10 to 5 or 10 to 3 and sometimes accidently 10 to 1! still strikes).

I had been tearing them up with my ICON original the last few weeks and with many a strike string.  But for some reason today the thing went in to retard mode.  Pocket 7-10s, 6 pins it just didn't have it's mojo!  And I had a terrible game!
Looked great but couldn't carry.

Took out this Wow...(pearl) and was very impressed with a touch more length(not working as hard early and a little bit of a slightly more angular move at the break this ball was the ticket!

1st game except for a disastrous 9th frame could have been 268 and a few missed spares in game 3 still put me above 200.  As they say on this tough scoring pair for everyone on our pair "I killed em".

This weightblock is from the Reaction Arc, Victory SPT and Wired group.

I had a couple of Victory SPTs but never drilled them this way 4 1/4 X 4 1/4 but I knew this ball could flip very smooth and strongly for a particle!

Impressive.  .....but not pearl!

I think i might coat one more time so I don't have to throw so hard!

REgards,

PS I have a Wired sitting on the drilling table which may be punched up in the next couple of weeks!  Want to see that action!

Its a particle pearl.  You can see the "pearl" in the darker sections of the balls coverstock.  Also if you rolled it beside the WOW (even polished) you would notice it is cleaner up front and more angular on the backend, but obviously it will still be "grabby" compared to reactive covers or lighter load particle pearls.  That said, im not quite sure I understand your post :0

Oh Caprice where was that in this post!?

I hit the pocket like mad first game and just it didn't match up!
But it's matched up many another night that Icon is SWEET SWEET SWEET in this house!!  One of my few games under 200 with it!

I switched balls!  It worked, sort of providing a feel for the ball!  LAter (when polished) and sharper, impressed with the angularity of the weight block on a particle.

Oh as to playing other parts of the lane?  Third or fourth arrow, is that suppossed to be tough?  Not moi, man I"ve torn up sport, WTC, and pba regional proams by playing between 3rd and 4th arrow no problem.  Frequently when they bring them to town I will shoot higher than my league sets that week.
Give me some of your righty type shots and ie stand deep fling to 10 with OB outside 9 I shine.  WRONG guy!

Where I have struggle has often been on severe wet dry top hats like this but the Columbia tip of playing 10 to 5 or 4 or 3 has raised my average a lot on a severe lefty killer shot.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS on my pair the high righty in the league this night shot 50 pins under me.
He wasn't uttering any smack!

PS for the righties who haven't been watching.  We really don't have a track on the left!  SURPRISE!  There is a tube shot at our local centers where we have a hold area shot at 13 to 8(one of my favorites).  WE can play that all NIGHT!

WE can hit the pocket all night!  WE Will leave flat 7s on EVERY ball.  1/2 as strong handed righties will play the parallel shot and carry ALL night!
Track over there!
