2nd try with new ball spinner
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:07:00 PM »
I have had my innovation ball spinner for a few weeks now.  The first surface adjustment i did was somewhat a rush job. With that i think i had a surface to fine to have polish on top of (ball was a VE).

the 2nd try i took my time made a good mess i livingroom (thats what the vaccume it for right?)

surface----> (grit U.S.) 240,320,400,600,1500  sanded all 6 sides with each grit.

wasn't able to try it out before league (had fingers crossed). house seemed to have more oil than normal.  Game 1) 233 had a 4-9 split that i missed. Game 2) 300, game 3) 242 (775 series).

i am very please with my new tool.

If I might make some suggestions --

1. Experiment with older, less valuable balls than a VE, unless it was someone else's junk.

2. With all the wet compounds flying around, why in heaven's name put such a thing in living room??? Basement, garage, or other work space.

3. Surface adjustments do not need to start with such rough abrasive levels as 240, 320 or even 400. That's for total resurfacings. For "adjustments" or refreshings, start with one level below the finished level. Otherwise, you're wasting valuable ball surface. Examples:
1. if the ball is at P2000 grit and you want to take it to P4000, do the surface with a P2000 pad, then use a P4000 pad.
2. If the ball is one of the new 500/4000 grit balls, and you want to do a refresh, start with the 500 grit pad on the whoel surface lightly, then do the 4000 grit pads even more lightly.

I don't have a garage or basement. (Gotta love urban brownstones!) At the recommendation of the good folks here, I purchased a large rubbermaid tub to place my spinner in. It contains the mess perfectly.

You resurfaced a bowlingball in your living room?  At least you have a splash guard!  I know you can sand a ball without water, but I wouldn''t want to.  Breathing in that dust can''t be good for one''s health.  Of course I''m assuming you dry sanded just because of your vacuum comment.

I got a spinner a few months ago and started with my old Track Synergy just to get a feel of how it works.  Then I did a complete resurface of my Cell Pearl with a final 500/4000 surface.  I''ll admit that I think I sanded too long with the lower grits, but I think it turned out well.

thanks for th.  The tips  the VE was somewhat in need of a total resurface and i did use light pressure.

the way my house is set-up (short on elc. outlets) and having a 5 and 3 yr old  i coulodn't use it where the mess wouldn't matter. just had to behave and clean-up after i was done "play'n" the same as i try and teach my kids. i did take precations and covered area (under and around) with towles)

the tub idea is nice too. thinking of that with a hole for shop vac hose. just need to find one big enough but yet not overly big (if possiable)

The tub works great.  I have one with a lid.  You can keep the spinner, pads, etc. in the tub and easily move it around, if needed.

Put in a tub and wet sand, using a spray bottle.  No dust in your lungs or carpet.  --  JohnP
