I've used 60 grit in match play tournaments to blow a hole in the oil pattern/to help create a look.  I would never use it as an actual strike ball line, but I have thrown a ball with 60 grit before.  I always keep a fury with that sand paper in the car just in case of an emergency.

Get an AMB particle, it WILL hook.

first off make sure its heavy oil and not just a flat pattern which can make you think its heavy oil.

and 2nd i would do as others said. no less then 4-500 grit.

other then that if theres that much oil you need a particle ball or just whip it straight at the 1-3 (if righty)

I once had a ball at 20 grit just for shizz and giggles. It hooked huge for 20 feet then rolled out. 100% reverse ball reaction.

Much under 400 grit and I'm surprised the owner doesn't kick you in the nutz.

If it don't work at 400-500 grit, you need skills and a spare game, not more surface.

My last week of PBA experience was the old 50' US Open shot, except it was at least 55'.  Even a guy with a lot more hand than me saw nothing but hydroplane.  We were on 1 and 2 and walked down the end to see which pattern they put out, since the new Open shot is 37'.  Even my 500 grit Weapon of Mass Bias didn't hook until the pin deck.  Played a very direct line with a 1000 grit Tour Power and did pretty well (565?).  The problem with super low grits is that you eventually chew up the head oil, but still have a big load from the mid lane to the pin deck.

I found on the 50' pattern to play inside and hook a only a couple boards, almost like throwing plastic. The other choice is the AMB, which hooked alot but rolled out on the 50'pattern.
