DIY 2.0 Oven

Thanks to Method noticing a major flaw my final product has been modified and finished. It is now much more efficient.

Any one else make one similar or different post it on here for others to see as well. The more help the better.

Really impressive! As a DIY'er myself, might have to put this to the test. did you maybe consider a towel or pillow case on the inside of the bucket to catch oil?

Decided to just wipe down periodically as I went. After reading the link info from Brunswick R&D I figured that would be best.

I love this. Are you sanding the balls you're extracting the oil from to open the pores of the ball?

Yes. I hit them with 360. Then bake, then 500 followed by either polish or more sanding depending on the ball.

Why the need for both the 5 gallon bucket and the plastic bin? Wouldn't one or the other work as well ? Thank you . Great idea!!!! :)

The last version I made doesn't require the 5 gallon bucket. You mount the lid of the dehydrator to the lid of the rubber bin.

When the dehydrator lid is on the 5 gallon bucket the hot air is being blown down the outside of the bucket which is why you add holes to the bucket.  The bucket is also used as an option to hold the lid inside the rubber bin instead of trying to undermount the lid to the rubber bin.

Mine is similar and works very well.  I just used the trays that came with the dehydrator and also bought an extra set, 8 trays total.  Then I cut the insides out of each tray (very easy to do) and then use it as is.  I can either just take the top off, or take the entire stack off to access the ball, which is sitting on 4 wooden balls in a "Dollar Store" tray.  I'm using an old digital thermometer that I had laying around.  All up, I've got about $85 dollars in it.  It's definitely a bargain.  Here are several pictures of it as I'm de-oiling my wife's Crossroads.  Check out the oil on the ball.

No need to rotate when it is in an oven. If you had a microfiber towel in the unit that rubbed against the ball then having it rotate would be good for getting the oil off.

I check it every 15-30 mins for the first hour then every 30 min after that to wipe off oil and keep going.

That's what I do too.  I spray some ball cleaner on a paper towel and wipe the ball off and put it back in.  Repeat until it's done.

I will attest to the model like kidlost2000 did as I made one just like it. Cant beat it for less than $100 and it does 2 Balls at a time  ;) Great Idea
