Or do most people think 500 grit is overkill? I keep my mastermind at 600 grit (green scotchbrite pad but close enough for this conversation) for use on the flood. I had to bring it out in practice Sunday night because my nightmare at 4,000 wasn't finishing well because of the oil, and the mastermind was amazing even at such a low grit

I once threw an Apex Obsession finished at 360 grit. Lane man put oil in the stripper tank.. that was a flood!

I have used 500 before, but need to be selective about it. The volume needs to dictate that kind of surface. Nearly anything I'd use at 500 works better for me at 1000, but that's just me...

The only time I use 500 grit is when I polish a ball. Depending on the ball, some I will use 500 grit and polish, some 1000 grit and polish and some 2000 git and polish. As far as using 500 and no polish, I haven't done that for quite sometime. Like Clay, 1000 is the lowest I go for a ball without polish.
