still using simple green?

A few years back on this website there seemed to be a simple green craze, people just couldn't get enough of cleaning their balls with the stuff. How many of you are still using it as an everyday cleaner, and what is your "secret" cleaning formula?

Me personally, i clean my balls once a week (too lazy to do any more than that) with a mixture of 1 part simple green, 1.5 parts acetone, 1 part alcohol and 2 parts water. This and a hot water bath every 3 months has kept my ball reaction going strong on all of my balls and caused me to retire them only because they are so nicked up that I can't stand looking at them anymore. If you are not using simple green anymore, why did you switch off of it?

charlest & others -- Yes, Simple Green leaves a film on the ball.  But try wiping the ball after the cleaning with a wet rag, then drying it with a dry rag.  No film left.  I use a mixture of equal quantities of Simple Green, rubbing alcohol, and water.  I have followed this by using several other proprietary cleaners and have seen very little additional visible dirt removed.  By the way, I use acetone ONLY for removal of Super Glue.  --  JohnP

I used to use Simple Green and it did a respectable job. Also tried some of these home made cleaners listed here. No matter which ones I used (Simple Green included), I could come right behind them with Ultimate Black Magic Rejuvinator and get more dirt/oil off the ball.

I've incorporated lane cleaner with Simple Green and water.  Two parts SG, two parts H20, one part lane cleaner.  No residue and squeaky clean.

230 sounds like a pretty toxic over there east of me.  

Did you bowl Rock River Lanes tourney yet?  If, so how was it?

What is this "ball cleaning" of which you speak?  The only time I "clean" a ball is if I'm changing the surface.  Truthfully, I cannot see a difference between a "clean" or an "unclean" ball.  Yeah, if it has belt marks I'll get 'em off, but the Magic Elixir on the ball is all I normally ever need to use.  (I don't wipe it with a towel ever either - unless there is oil dripping.)

We're heading over to Lake Mills for a squad of scratch doubles on this Friday, Oconomowoc for the Brunswick World on 12/4 and trying to fit Rock River in on the Friday after that.  It's gonna be tough this time of year to fit much else in on the weekends.  If RR is anything like last year, it should be a carry fest.  I left 20% of my head at home that night and still shot 680 with five splits.  With a better percentage of cranium retention and a lot less alcohol, I expect to fare quite better!

I've been using a mixture of 75% Simple Green to 25% water on duller balls or balls I want to keep dull and about 50-50 on polished balls. I primarily use it to get off the dirt and oil on the ball but it doesn't take the belt marks or scuffs off the ball. For that I use Neo-Tac's Hook-It, which is a great cleaner btw, a little expensive but well worth it. That take the belt marks off like nothing.

If I trade for a new ball or notice a big drop in performance, I soak the ball in hot water with Simple Green or Dawn, scrub it with the backside of the sponge while soaking, take it out and dry it off post haste. Then I take a generous amount of Neo-Tac's Hook-It and really scrub the ball on a rag. And the ball, had it not had any nicks or scratches, would look brand in new.

Well that is your right, however; are you one of the people that complain about the integrity of the sport? That comment is possibly the single most disgusting comment I have seen on this site. Pray that you never have to get on the lanes with me, because I will push it as far as to forcing you to use a house ball.

You are a CHEAT! You are using something in this game that not only do you know is illegal, but you are deliberately breaking the rule. Static weights dont matter either, but I would never let any of my balls that I drill walk out of the shop with excess side weight. People like you are part of the reason that bowling is going down hill. Have a go at me if you want. I tell it how it is.

You have that right to state your opinion. However, I will respectfully disagree and point you to the fact that by my estimates, at least 20% of the lanes today in my area (and others) do not adhere to the 3 unit minimum rule. I do not bowl leagues at these establishment, but literally hundreds of league bowlers do. I can almost guarantee that in your area, there is an illegal shot at a house somewhere. Go ahead and call me on the acetone, and just like a sandbagger would say, prove it.

Stanski, none of the houses I bowl in adhere to that rule either. Most of them use 10 or more outside the 8 board!
