switching to to 409 for cleaning??
« on: November 20, 2003, 02:30:52 AM »
I'm considering switching to Formula 409 for basic cleaning after each session.
I currently use Ebonite Powerhouse Energizer cleaner and it seems to work well.
However, if the 409 works just as good, I'll switch since it's much cheaper and I seem go be going through the Energizer at a rapid pace lately.
My question is which specific type of 409 is the way to go?  409 Orange Clean specificly seems to be mentioned quite a bit in past postings.  I'd also try Simple Green too.  Do you use this stuff straight or mix with water?

Thanks!

not to be insulting or anything, but I think you're overthinking this. Most household degreasers will break down the oil on the surface of the ball and used with a decent terry cloth towel will clean it well. It's cheap enough; why dilute it more? Simple Green or 409 anything, as long as it says "degreaser", should work fine. Life is difficult enough as it is.

no problem, I've just heard about people doing a 50/50 mix or something.  I thought that maybe the stuff was too strong for bowling ball coverstocks if it wasn't diluted a bit.

I don't think straight Simple Green will hurt a ball's coverstock, but it's probably stronger than you need it to be.  If you have an empty spray bottle hanging around, mix it 50-50 with water.  Or just use 409 straight from the bottle.  Both work fine.
