What would u do?
« on: September 23, 2003, 09:45:07 PM »
The first time i tryed hook again, i did no alternations to the coverstock, i didnt resurface it. And i noticed it didnt make much difference. Now since all big leagues are starting, im seeing heavy oil, and the Icon 2 is my heavy oil ball, and now thats its dead im screwed.

But i was thinking, before i put it in the hook again again(2nd time), i want to sand the ball down to basically as far down as i can go to handle the oil, its at 600 now. But, many people said to resurface it b4 applying hook again.

So... is there a point in resurfacing after i have it sanded down??? Basically sanding the ball down and resurfacing are the same thing, in a way kinda..... right?

channel surfer -- I make a distinction between "performance sanding" and refinishing.  Performance sanding requires only a light sanding (in one or more directions) with the grit sandpaper or Scotchbrite desired, possibly followed by a polish.  Resurfacing requires starting with a very coarse grade of sandpaper, 100 grit or lower, to remove all but the deepest scratches and then multiple sandings in four or six directions with progressively higher grits of paper (example:  100 grit, 150 grit, 280 grit, 400 grit, 600 grit, 800 grit) until you reach the desired surface.  Or, the easy way is to use a refinishing machine like the Hach.  Hope I've answered your question.  --  JohnP

Before you use Hook-it-Again, sand your ball
with about 600 sandpaper (wet sand)AND THEN SEE WHAT
THE REACTION IS! You might be surprised and you might
not. Please don't sand the ball and then use hook-it.

You mean Hook Again, not Hook it.

I am pretty sure that when Doug Sterner used Hook Again on my Cherry Bomb that he resurfaced it beforehand.  The ball has been like new ever since.  I would follow JohnP's advice or just ask Doug what he did to mine.
