windex for cleaning

I remember someone suggested to use the windex to clean the ball, is it possible ? what kind of ball should i use for it ? what is the effect of apply it to a high polished ball ?

Windex is for windows. period.

There are so many good bowling ball-specific cleaners out there. If you must be cheap and try to use something not intended for bowling balls, I guess you could try Simple Green mixed 50/50 with water or alcohol.

I was using Windex for a while before switching to simple green and now to Tracks clean N Dull. The windex worked well and never seemed to hurt the balls. It removed belt marks better than simple green. However, nothing i've tried can come close to the deep cleaning power of Clean N Dull!!! Try it and you won't go back to those cheap cleaners after seeing all the dirt come out of your ball.

Try cleaning with simple green, then clean with clean n dull. I would be quite surprised if anything more came out of the ball after simple green is used, i know i can't find a product to get more out after i use simple green.

You spend 200+ for a high performance ball, just buy a $30 quart of storm reacta clean.

Anyone have change for my 2 cents?


Clean & Dull's instructions do say to use water and a paper towel to remove any residual C&D. It's one of the few to give such explicit instructions. DOn't be macho; RTFI and follow them.

I keep a 50/50 of SG & water in a 6 oz container. I squirt a little on a clean microfiber towel and rub it on 1/4 - 1/3 of the ball at a time. Wipe it off with a dry portion of towel. (When the container is empty, I'll probably start mixing the SG 50/50 with alcohol and see what that does.)

Charlest, the thing i like about mixing 50/50 alcohol and simple green is that it allows the simple green to evaporate/leave less of a residual effect on the coverstock. Its a great deep cleaner just with water, but the alcohol really allows it to evaporate nicely.

Actually I have tried cleaning with simple green first, but when you follow with clean n dull on a spinner....it grabs alot more off. Simple Green has nothing on Clean N Dull!!! Period.

I've posted it before & I'll post it again.

3-5 parts Simple Green
1 part Neo-Tac Hook-It

If you have serious dirt issues, mix it 3-1.
If you're using it for everyday cleaning mix it 5-1

at the 3-1 ratio you're paying about $11.00 for 32oz of the stuff.

Ya know...there's probably half as many 'mixtures' as there are people in this world. What works great for one, might not for the other. If you are happy with the 'mixture' you have, use it....if not...try someone's mixture.

I have, found my own, works great ...FOR ME...might not for you, but that's why they make Fords (yuck), Chevys, Dodge and all the others....choice.

This surprises me, as I have tried the same experiment and have not been able to get any product to grab any more oil or dirt out of the ball after I use my simple green mixture.

To each his own I suppose.
