1 - 1.5 inch pin
« on: May 05, 2009, 03:20:34 PM »
So gues this what i get for ordering off internet, got a cell pearl with a 1 -1.5 inch pin, asked for 3 - 4 inch pin. Dont know my stats but basicly strong tweener with decent speed. What kind of layouts could be done that arent too strong to where it can be used as a benchmark ball and not condition specific?

where did you order it ???
i think that with that pin you can only use something like the "spinners dream layout "in the instruction sheet

cg has almost no effect on reaction in a high mass bias ball. as long as you take the end static weights into account and make the ball legal you will be fine. a pin up drilling may require deep drilled fingers. as for layout i like to go with a 4 inch pin to pap distance with the mass bias under the thumb. smooth and strong reaction. good luck.

You are slightly limited with a short pin. It also depends on the top weight. You can go with it pin below your fingers or just above and drill the fingers to take out the top weight from the cg.

How did you want the ball to roll? Go long and snap? (I would guess) If so try and get the pin above the fingers and drill the fingers to account for the weight.

Well i have an rsp and its a strong arc ball, thats what i was looking for in this ball.  More or less to replace the rsp. I think i mite see if my proshop will accept a even trade. They have some at 134 bux with 3 inch pins. Alot cheaper than ship/handling fees plus restock fees.

I doubt your pro shop will want to trade - they would be accepting warranty liability when they sell the ball.  I would place the pin 5" from your PAP and under the fingers with the MB about 3" right of the grip centerline (if you're right handed).  --  JohnP

Why don't you call buddies and give them a chance to correct the mistake? If the ball was shipped direct from a distributor there's the mistake. If the ball was shipped from buddies and you specifically requested a certain pin it's his mistake. I've ordered many balls from there and never had a problem getting the pin I wanted. And as somebody else stated there are no shipping charges on orders over $75 so why would you mention the shipping charges? Are you sure you got it from buddies?

Actually that is my fault, came from bowlingball.com, i was just on buddies when i posted this and had them on brain. i was meaning shipping charges back to them plus restock fees. Took to proshop and he checked my specs and did his magic o the ball and had couple options. Went with a pin below and to right of fingers. He said it would give length with great backend. I kinda wanted more of a strong arc ball but we will see what it really does with my speed/ rotation. He has bout 50 roto balls to drill by tuesday, big roto league starts so im gonna have to wait before i c whatt it does

Its a pearlized ball. Those are intended to go long and snap. Solids are a little more apt for getting a smoother arc.

You can lightly sand the ball to take the shine off and calm it down to be more even with less snap. Closer to an arc. A little 2000 grit or so would be plenty.

Many people make the mistake of buying a ball and wanting it to do something it's not intended for then blame the ball.

ie, Buying a pearlized ball and wanting it to roll early, or a dull aggressive ball and wanting it to go long and snap. Usually good proshop people can help put you in the right direction.

It will still be a good ball to have for your arsenal. The Cell or Rogue Cell would be something of better choice to try and get more arc out of. Or one of their lesser big hooking series balls

rs-p is pearl and is strong arc, thats what i wanted the cell pearl to do. not looking for rolly arc but short of skid snap.  also in this area some pro shops let you trade used balls in for purchase of a ball so thats where i was going with that. ok so its drilled and threw it about 4 times. the thumb is a tad snug. what i can say is that the ball went fairly straight. hope it just needs sum breaking in time.
