1x3 drilling
« on: October 15, 2004, 08:26:25 AM »
I tried this on a power groove. I'd had Power Grooves in the past with more of 5.5x5.5 layout. Those balls were long with a crazy flip in the back. Carry was good with the long pin to PAP, but it was sometimes hard to keep the ball in the pocket. My Pap is about 6.25 inches over and .5 inches down. This ball is drilled with the pin 5.5 inches right of grip center and .5 inches up. Cg is angled back toward grip center. The ball was a 2.5 inch pin with 2.9 ounces of starting topweight. A large weight hole is right above my PAP.
This ball gets a totally different reaction. It's still clean in the heads, but it is all about arc after that. This ball is sooooo easy to keep in the pocket. Carry is good light, flush and even a tad high. If I hit half pocket it will ping tens. I really like this layout. It helps to keep me in play. How would this layout work on a stronger ball? I have a Blazing Inferno laying around NIB. I wonder how that ball would work with this layout?

As a side note, It is really neat to watch this ball go down the lane. You can see the pin rotating in a small circle. The circle is ever tightening as the ball rolls down the lane. The ball also has a weird flare pattern. It flares 3+ inches. My track is over the middle finger an an inch away from my thumb with my spare ball. This PG quickly flares off of the fingers and back toward the thumb. With most balls my track migrates away from both sets of holes as the ball flares.

Neat drill!
