Drilling Suggestions
« on: August 07, 2007, 03:15:58 PM »
I have an eight ball tournament arsenal and I bowl mostly on PBA patterns.  I have different drillings on each ball.  I hear a lot about people who have a favorite layout or drilling.  I have never really been able to define what my favorite layout is.  How does one determine that?

Without getting into too much of the detail about each drilling, what might be a decent default drilling given my specs below?  I know what works well for me (and poorly) in terms of my arsenal, but I would not say that definitely means the layout is particularly good or bad.  I would be interested to hear opinions on this, from people who are experienced ball drillers.

PAP: 4 1/4 right 7/8" up
Ball speed: 16-17 mph
Axis Rotation: 60-80 degrees
Axis tilt: 20 degrees
Rev rate: medium and matched with speed

Thanks
Chuck

Do you have a ball with the Rico1 layout?  That's pin near grip center, cg (symmetrical) or mb (asymmetrical) 45 degrees to the positive thumb quadrant from grip center, and balance hole 6 3/4" from the pin on a line from the pin through the cg or mb.  I think that could be a good layout for your specs.  It reads the midlane well and gives a strong and continuous arc in the backend.  --  JohnP
