Full Roller drillings....
« on: March 20, 2006, 03:19:16 AM »
Ok, We have a guy who is coming in this week to drill up a few balls before he leaves for nationals. He has turned into a full roller over the years because of a broken wrist and some other issues. Most of the full rollers i drill stuff for isn't a problem and the guys score well with a few differnt layouts for them. Here is the problem tho. This guy isn't your normal rull roller, He hits on em very well and has a rev rate of close to 500. I am was wondering if any if anyone has drilled any balls for a guy like this and what layouts you have used, as I am going to need to get very specific with reactions as sometime he is very perticular in the reaction he wants. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A couple of years ago I drilled a ball for a "cranking full roller".  I just used the standard full roller layout, cg near grip center and pin at about 7:30 from grip center.  He loved it, but he was comparing with a ball that had been drilled for a 3/4 roller and was rolling over the holes.  --  JohnP

JP. I know thats the common layout but i need to know some more exotic full roller drilling and the reactions they give people as to give him more versatility with equipment. I know you can put the pin uner the thum and mose the cg a little possitive. Is it possible to put the pin above the thumb and move the cg up around the fingers?? or any other exotic possibilities??

AA it is definatly possible, just very, very rare. This is the first guy i have drilled something for but i have seen it a few other times, most of the time everyone trys to convert them to a 3/4 roller because they believe a full roller isn't good for some reason.

Ok here is my first post and I hope it helps you out.
I got this out of Hammers Matching up with Hammer Drilling Book and used this drilling on a couple balls for some guys at my house. Gave them a completly differant look on the lane and way more backend. I've never seen my dad throw a ball the moved this much.
Place the pin 10 1/8in. in a 1:30 position from the center of grip (2.7oz. top or less, pin 3-4in.) drill balance hole halfway between pin and C.G.
This also happens to put the M.B. 3 3/8in. from the center of grip.
What this layout does is puts the pin on the bottom of the ball in relation to the center of grip and causes the flare to reverse.  Hope this helps
