I just got everything to drill my own equipment help

I have all the stuff to do my own stuff including scales. I have all the right stuff not homeade or anything like that. I have never drilled a ball. I know what my span is but how do I put it on the ball correctly. I did some practice stuff and it seemed like the thumb ended up feeling weird everytime like it was more left then it should be. I am left handed. Also how thick should the bridge be. Teach me please. Pics are helpful as well. Thanks

Go to a pro-shop class. Its worth the couple hundred. Learn to do it right first. Ask you buddies to donate to you balls they have stopped using. You can first cut your teeth on the fine art of plugging then practice drilling on stuff that doesn't matter. Have fun, very envious.

I also got a bunch of ball plug too. I will try on some junk balls and see what happens. It doesnt seem to hard I just wanted some pointers. I cant believe I have all the stuff I wasnt even looking for it but it fell into my lap I have a better set up then some of the pro shops I have seen. Just need to learn how to use it now.

Standard bridge is 1/4".  Also, when doing lateral pitches, make sure you're going the right way.  If you want 1/8" right you need to move the ball 1/8" LEFT.  It's easy to do it backwards.

Ummm...do you really think u should be drilling ANY bowling balls if u must ask these questions? I do not want to upset you, but you could really do harm to yourself and others without gaining a little knowledge on "putting holes in a ball"? At least read a few books, or if you can afford it, pay someone to help you out with some basics. It isn't all about just drilling a few holes and hoping it comes out OK.

Thunder what do you think I am doing I am asking questions to try to learn. I am practicing on junk balls. I am not just going to drill a 200 ball until I know how to do it. You have to start somewhere.

Asking questions on a computer is not what you need to do. You need to get hands-on experience. People throwing numbers and explanations to you in text will not help you learn the proper techniques. Just stating some small facts.

If your mechanically inclined and have the right tools it isn't really too hard to get the holes in the ball. I had a couple of balls that I kept plugging and redrilling, experimenting with forward, reverse and lateral pitches until I pretty much settled on what I have now. I kept changing the pitches in small steps because I didn't want to hurt my hand and if the ball didn't feel right I immediately quit throwing it. The real challenge is putting the proper layout on the ball for your style and what you want the ball to do. But there are many people on this forum that are very knowledgeable about layouts that are always ready to help when you ask. I basically learned most of what I know from this forum and experimentation on "mule" balls. Just remember, It's just a bowling ball and if the hole isn't right you just plug it up and start over. BTW, most of the balls I have are used balls from EBay.

I played around with it today did lots of spans and stuff on junk stuff. Then Drilled my buddies new plastic spare ball for him. It came out really nice. My question what are the finger pitches supposed to be at so the bridge doesnt drill through. Somebody on here wrote me a pm saying to use 3/8 on both and that did work great the bridge didnt break or drill through what should a guy use though.

I use 1/4 left and 1/2 right with 5/16 bridge. They don't meet even at 2-1/2" deep and I have never had a bridge crack.

If he uses a book for basic drilling techniques, it will have illustrations and step by step instruction. Just typing it out does no good. Obviously the easiest way to learn is by working with someone who has experience, but if he can't go that direction, a book WITH illustrations is still better than just trying to understand what people type and send him.
