Layouts
« on: September 19, 2006, 07:13:06 AM »
AFter talking with my coach he told me that I just had some basic fundamentals to tune up which wouldnt be that big a deal.  He told me that one of my biggest problems is equipment.  Mainly the layouts of what I have are not giving me different breakpoints which is why I may line up and kill the pocket all night long but not be able to carry that great.  What my question is....what types of layouts on what type of equipment would be good in a 6 ball arsenal.  Gonna have to be basic with my here as pin to PAP measurements arent going to help me out much.  Need a decent description.

Thanks,
Nick

for heavy oil: something dull with a shorter pin distance.
med heavy: you can have a little longer pin dist than pure heavy.
med. A solid reactive with pin around 4"
med. A pearl reactive with a go-long-and-kick layout.
med light. a weak reactive with a weaker pin, maybe about 6".
light/spares A really weak polished reactive or a plastic ball.

Not the greatest layouts, but your driller should be able to get you the reaction your want.

Nick,

You may want to look at the new class that we are hosting in November.  We've just announced a Bowling Ball Layout and Lane Play: 101 Class to go along with our pro shop training classes.  Check out our website for more information on it.  Thanks, and good luck!

azus' recommendations are the best one can give at that moment, IMHO. A 6 ball arsenal is already very versatile and can IMHO basically covera nything from desert to soup condition. Just make sure that the ball choice matches the intended lane condition with coverstock aggressiveness, surface prep and core dynamics (mainly RG value, to a lesser degree differential since this is "exploited" by the pin to PAP distance and dictates flare potential).
