Any mad scientists here that have put some "way out there" layouts in a ball?

Have a local shop that doesnt put the bridge lines on the ball.....they just eye ball it. When it comes to hitting the lines they do the same thing. Just eye ball it.


Seen some interesting stuff from that

Not here.  I've ruined a few over the years, so I pretty much stick to what works for me, and then tweak the surface to suit my needs.

I have used the 320 degree hook set layout on a visionary midnight scorcher, and I was able to get the ball easily out of the out of bounds area on a very tough tournament shot....actually I had to tame the cover from the rough grit I used to use it at just to keep it from going nuts..I plan to try it on a "weaker" ball at somepoint in the next couple of months to see what happens...I have put the 250 degree strong backend layout on 2 balls so far...a Track Flare bowling ball and a Wilson prostaff Urethane ball. The layout definitely does what it says, but on this one you need to have the right situation it seems for it to be really effective.  Just this past week I tried the "High Flare: Smooth" layout on a Visionary Scorcher NPT...and the difference was night and day with that ball....it really starts up hard in the midlane..where as before the drill change that ball didn't do much of anything at finer grit levels. All three drilling do what they say they will do.

I'm actually going to put the high flare smooth drill on a Hook. Had something similar on a Threat and it was the best!

Be careful with the high flare smooth layout. While it was effective for me, I flared over the x hole. The ball flared from left thumb to right thumb. My hole needed to be a little closer to grip and up. But the layout was effective.

I had a Hysteria with that layout on it. So the diff was a little high for the layout imo. But that layout was night and day compared to a 5x4 on my other Hysteria.

I had a BVP Goliath that I put the "Girard" layout on (pin below and left of thumb), which causes reverse flare under the thumb.  Very nice hook/set rxn for flying backends.  I tried it on several other balls without much luck...probably more a function of the ball, rather than the layout.
