Pin in vs pin out
« on: December 31, 2005, 12:18:39 AM »
I ordered an Action with a 3 to 4" pin.  The one that came in had a 1/2" pin.  I generally put the pin under my ring finger and place the cg slightly right.  What difference in reaction will I see with a 1/2" pin versus a longer pin out?  Thanks for the help....JS

Your pin to PAP distance is the primary element in the layout and it won't change.  Your cg will be near your grip center, which will affect your static weights.  This will mainly affect your ability to use a balance hole, if desired.  --  JohnP

1/2" pin?? John, John, John ...
(Can't you ask them toget you a 2-3" pin at least, if you plan on your normal drilling?)

Being as strong as the Action is, normally, I suspect on the lanes you've been bowling on, it will go thru the skid/hook/roll cycle fairly quickly. It'll have,in general, a little less continuation after hooking and won't have quite as much POTENTIAL backend as a longer pin-CG distance. A light polishing may modify some of that and make it more useful.

try a 1.30 label drill with pin out past and below the ringer finger..should gave you more length and good back end..

I know a guy on my Teusday night leauge whos a 500RPM+ rev player, lots of ball speed, nearly 21MPH strike shot. All of his equipment is Pin to CG less then 1". Hes got a Roto Grip Sonic Boom with a pin to CG placement of less then 1/8th inch, its almost literally stacked pin and CG. Very much a pin placement youd see with a true plastic ball. He averages 227 so i guess it works for him lol.
