Tricky situation here.....
« on: April 11, 2005, 02:41:54 PM »
My one of my teammates is most probably about to buy a Navy RevolutionIST with about a 5" pin an 2.5oz top, his track is about 2" from his finger and thumbholes, now i gather that drilling a long pin ball for a semi spinner is not easy, should i be looking at a layout with the pin just left of his middle finger or an inch or so above his bridge or just suggest another ball which wont be a pain in the butt to layout?

What does the pin being next to his middle finger have to do with anything if we don't know his PAP?  I think pin out balls are even better for spinners because they rev up faster, and since you can get the pin near their grip easier you can do more exotic layouts.

Perhaps I'm thinking about this differently?

You have it backwards shorter pins rev up faster and have less length with a smoother reaction.

He should still be able to use the ball though.
I would go with pin under and any where from ring to middle depending on the flare/length desired and CG swung way out toward PAP, say between a 0 and 30 degree drilling, this will require a balance hole but that will allow him to make a small adjustment to the reaction for what ever he is loooking for. This should give a forward roll shape with a smooth backend on the proper condition.
I am not familiar with that ball though.

It is a matter of terms.
By faster I mean that it will rev earlier which will make it smoother.
I assume by saying faster you are meaning quicker transition from skid to roll which will be more of a flip reaction.

Flip is a figure of speech, I know that the ball does not make an instananeous direction change.

If it is not a matter of terminology then I stick with my first statement, that shorter pin to CG distances rev faster/earlier with a smoother more arcy reaction.

I don't know where you got the idea that longer pin to CG distances rev faster, will have less length, and a smoother reaction. I have read a lot about bowling and have never seen where anyone stated that.
