Experimenting with a very short span with a quarter forward pitch. I'm playing with this to try and eliminate the feeling of having to hang on to the ball, my thumb comes out very quickly, I never loft the ball, couldn't if i tried, I've been told I have a very smooth and effortless release. My rev rate is somewhere in the low 200s, ball speed is about 15mph at the pins, I typically belly the ball when I have a very forgiving shot, playing around 4th arrow and sending the ball to around 8 at the breakpoint. Given a typical house shot I'll usually be around 210 give or take a few pins. Given what I've described, what do you think I should be expecting. Has anyone dropped the span and went with forward in the thumb and really liked it?

Your thumb and finger pitch should be based on flexibility, span, skin type and thumb length.

Thumb length is one of the biggest factors in trying Forward Pitch. I have a very short thumb and I continue to love 1/2 forward pitch. I have had customers try 1/4 or so forward but couldnt get out of it because of their length of thumb.

Its going to be very hard at first to adapt and get free at release point. 97% or more bowlers sqeeze the ball and with the forward pitch, those little pinches become way more visable. I went from using 1/2 reverse!!!!!, to using 1/2 forward!!!!! And with that, thanks to Ron Clifton for giving me one of the best releases in bowling. Hope that helps ya. Whichever way you go, just dont give up on it quick. John

why does everyone base release issues off of pitch? If the span is wrong, adjusting pitch is mereley a band-aid.
Make sure your span is correct FIRST then adjust pitch to coincide with necessary adjustments.
