The interchangable thumb thinggy...i have seen some of my friends drill it, but they told me not to because it would have a effect on the core and on the weight. Is the difference negligable?

The only product I know that you drill deep is the Thom's Thumb which you have to drill to 3 1/2" to install the sleeve.  Down that deep, you might touch the core a little bit, depends on what type of ball you install that in.  Me personally, I use the Griploc system in which you only have to go down 2 9/16" so there is plenty of room left over.  No issues with mine so far.

My friends used the "switch grip" and drilled alot out of the ball
