What causes this to happen?
« on: November 20, 2007, 01:42:51 PM »
Not sure if this is the proper forum, but here it goes....

My friend got a ball plugged and redrilled, and the driller messed up his span so they had to plug his thumb for a second time.  so when he got the ball back it rolls like he rolls over the thumb.  The thing is he tracks at least 2.5 inches away on his normal throws with any other ball.  Pitches and spans are the same on all his balls including this one.  The ball looks like it could be lobsided by the thumb like it forms a plateau or slightly resembles an egg around the thumb slug.  What would cause this and would the pro shop be liable?

Without seeing the ball, I'd guess there is a flat spot on the first plugged thumb.

Look at the oil rings, if he is tracking over the thumb that is different.

His oil rings are about 2-2.5 inches away from his thumb.

If the shop left the ball out of round after plugging, and he rolls over that part, it will sound bad, or at least could.

I had one that did the same thing.  Turns out the shop had left a slight flat spot after working down the plug and had to do it again to get it right.
