What If : 3 finger holes?
« on: February 20, 2008, 08:50:48 PM »
This may sound silly, but for knowledge sake, lets just imagine that we have 3 finger holes of same span for both middle and ring finger with 0 pitch for thumb on a ball. (also the finger size are the more or less the same) Lets assume that the pin is above the finger hole closest to PAP at 4 1/2".

Now, if we use only two holes (first two holes) for gripping this would put the last hole unused. And we get this 'A' reaction by using the first two holes. Next we use the 2nd and 3rd hole for gripping thus leaving the 1st hole unused. Am I right to say that we will get a different reactions as the pin to PAP distance changes? I'm asking you guys opinions on this.

This is the drilling rule no 1 from USBC:
Holes or indentations, not to exceed five (5), for
gripping purposes. The player is not required to use
all the holes in any specific delivery, but they must
be able to demonstrate that each hole can reasonably
be used for gripping purposes. Any hole that
cannot be reasonably shown to be used with a single
hand would be classified as a balance hole.

Also, is it also illegal to have 3 finger holes if the rule stated 5 hole for gripping purposes?
