What should this drilling do?
« on: September 01, 2003, 04:50:23 AM »
Hey everyone,

I know a little bit about drilling, but I'm still ignorant about some of the more complicated ones. Anyhow, I had my El Nino Wrath set up for extremely dry lanes, or so I thought. Here is what it looks like:

       O O
        .
   X   x
        o
       m

Now I'll clear up this crude illustration. The pin is below and between the fingers about 1", the cg is just off the grip center to the left, the mass bias is just left and below the thumb hole, and there is a weight hole to the left of the cg. Now, I'm right handed, and from what I know of drilling, this layout should make this ball extremely weak for a righty. Am I completely wrong about this? The reason why I ask is because this ball seems to get great length and it turns the corner like an absolute champ, even on heavier patterns, as long as the backends are clean. I tend to track very high. I'm a stroker with speed of around 17 mph and average to slightly above average revs. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Bowling is without a doubt the dumbest, most pointless, most idiotic excuse for a game that has ever been invented. So, what time are we bowling tomorrow?

Do you know what your PAP is?  Pin below the bridge for me (4 3/4 over, 5/8 up) is about 4 3/4" from my PAP.  However, anything with pin below the fingers tends to roll very early for me.  I have two balls (M2), one pin below the bridge (4.75"), one over, a little outside the ring finger (4").  Both have the CG kicked right a similar amount.  The one with the pin higher but closer to leverage gets much better length.  The one with the longer (but lower) pin rolls earlier and is better suited for more oil.

I have a turbo Diesel drilled similar. 105 deg with pin on grip centerline below fingers.

the ball is much smother and less jumpy on the same conditions as my other turbo. see profile.

The ball has less backend compared to my sling blade. as long as the cover has some fresh polish on it.

I really like this layout for control and might keep two of these in my bag. I resin and one Particle.
