Who Has The Same Ball, But Different Layouts?
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:52:38 AM »
I was just wondering how many out there have the same ball in their line up, but with different drill patterns to them?. I had a look at Jeff Carter's arsenal and I saw sometimes 3 of the same ball, but then again he is a bit different then most of us.

Do you ever use both layouts in the same set? Or only when you happen to see different oil patterns?
If one layout is more to your liking, do you find yourself over using this layout over the other?
Have you ever found one type of ball that was "really" different between the two layouts?

Thanks

I had 2 Ultimate Infernos at one time.  Same Layout, one Polished, one not.  It was a good time.

At one time I had in the bag:

2 Fury's
2 total infernos
2 red zones
3 classic zones

Each make was drilled differently with different surfaces (example red zones were pin under ring mb kicked out at 2000 abralon, the other pin over the bridge mb next to thumb at 500 high gloss).

Kind of... I've got a Ravage and Archon (fraternal twins, so to speak) laid out differently...  Don't use both at the moment, kind of got the Archon to see how much a different layout would be, and to give my Ravage a rest.

Two Twisted Furys - one "normal" layout and one Rico. Rico to play on the edge of the house wall until the shot breaks down, then move inside a bit with the "normal" one.

The king of that would have to be Clint Daley.  I dunno what he's doing now (shoulder problems?) but before he left he was building whole tournament arsenals around one ball.  10 Animals, then 10 GP2s, then 10 Robo Rules.  Different layouts, different surface preps, covering soup to heavy to light oil.

I haven't had two of the same ball, I don't buy much equipment and by the time I'm ready to buy a ball there's something that's got my eye or I luck into something used.

I have 2 Super Troopers and I used to have 2 Power Machines. I want to get another Rival and drill it strong, because that ball is amazing.

I have 2 Big Rig Diesel's. One pin up and one pin down. I use them both all the time. I'll switch balls to pick up certain spares depending on what is left also.

If you look at Jeff Carters arsenal, he also has the same balls with different grit covers.

Two Twisted Furys both with different layouts and surface. One drilled to pickup in the midlane and just roll the other drilled for more skid flip for when the outside gets toasty.

I have 2 rsx's one with 5.75 pin 4in above midline 45 degree drill cg just right of grip center line 4000 grit with polish. Ball has great length and a late kick. Depending on condition can use on any line. Number 2 has about a 4in
pin next to ring finger cg kick slightly to the right about a 35 degree drill
with a weight hole about an inch inside pap 2000 grit surface. This ball reads earlier with a hard arc (have a 300 with this one). Can cover most med-heavy to med light with just these two balls. Also have had in the bag at one time or another 2 white dots, yellow dots, excaliburs, teal rhinos, navy quantum, midnight quantum, black diamonds, udots and blue hammers.
