Why, do weightholes Work?

Also titled, "I could read about this for several weeks; but I won't!"

Some starting ideas.

Track flare
Ending static weights
Instability added to ball
Nicking core and adjusting core dynamics.

My personal favorite, air friction theory.

"Air Friction Theory"..? Hmmm.... That's the first I've heard of that. That must be why balls hook more with weight holes. =:^D

I have never heard em whistle until today!

But again I was throwing withextremely high revs, AND I was the only one bowling so it was very quiet!!!

PS I put this post out here so that this wouldn't fill up a little drilling post I was doing, I was at the section of WHICH WEIGHTHOLEs Work and what they do.  I didn't want that to get overwhelmed with the WHY Weightholes work.

WHY?  Because I don't care!  I just want to know where to put them to do certain things to the ball!

The weight hole was introduced in 1889 when August "Gus" Johannoson determined that a hole gouged from one side of his carved maple bowling ball would allow proper sap drainage.  The sap-deprived ball moved through the "heads" (the dirt part) cleaner.  While not actually helping ball dynamics, the "bowling ball with a hole" generated much ball-envy from his fellow throwers and caused the price of such balls to immediately jump to five cents and a clump of chaw.

The ball wars were on!
