X-holes
« on: September 02, 2008, 04:59:42 AM »
question for all:
i have a friend who tracks really high. we experimented and put a 5" pin up, 90*, 4k abralon drilling on an old pro stock pearl by storm. he has a tendancy to roll over the holes and i was wondering if we put a hole 4" from center of grip, if it would help the ball increase flare and move away from the fingers and such?

also, would i have to put the x-hole in the thumb or finger quadrant?

we are trying to figure out what we want to put into a black widow pearl, so when he has to get in, he has something that gets down lane, and will turn the corner, without reving up too soon, because of his speed. he has slower-medium speed and has decent revs. i am looking at more of a 5" - 5 1/2" pin up, 75*, 4k abralon layout for him.

thanks in advance all!

still trying to learn all the tricks of the trade.

What holes does he hit and when does he hit them (immediately on release or well down the lane)?  --  JohnP

usually the first part of the lane. i know part of it is when he rushes through the swing and does not come through the ball. but another part of it is just his normal release, and the fact that he tracks so high.

Hitting the holes in the early part of the lanes is a function of his release (he's probably hitting the thumb hole).  The flare is then pulling the track away from the holes, as it should.  I don't think any layout or balance hole will prevent this, he's either going to have to change his release to get more axis tilt or live with the noise.  --  JohnP

thanks JohnP!

One other thing to consider, is he closer to a full roller than a 3/4?  if he's hitting the inside of the thumb hole with the track a fair distance from the middle finger hole, a full roller layout may help get him off the hole earlier.  --  JohnP

JohnP, he clips the outside part of the thumb.

i like the idea of maybe making his span smaller. should i shorten the entire span or just the ring finger?

he does use grips, but the pitch is at 0.
