Wonder why NOBODY rejects bowling balls or brands because the coverstock technology comes in many cases from German companies (BASF, Bayer)?

The sad thing to me is that by law, in order to be considered "Made in the USA" today, the product only has to be 51% made OR assembled in the US to have that designation.  Kinda makes you wonder...
 
As far as Big B moving to mexico and people complaining, I was there with you at first as well.  But the more I thought about it the more I realized it was more because of the company and how I didn't like the Big B stuff or how it rolled for me.  Now they have a different line that does work and that I like.  Who is to say that the things used to make the balls didn't come from the US and that they are just made down there?

If where the ball is made is your only concern, you might want to reconsider the clothes you where, the furniture you sit and sleep on, the cars you drive and many other things you use daily.  I bet if you actually did a little more research you'd realize the Foreign car companies make just about as many cars in the US as the American Car companies.  Not to mention I bet the shirt you wore to work today didn't say "Made in USA."

I am slightly amazed that this is still a hot topic. We are talking bowling balls, not national security, cancer cures, or feeding the hungry of the world...

 

We love to bowl, but it's not life or death. The move to Mexico had to endure some growing pains, for sure, but Brunswick has hit their stride and is producing equipment that is exceptional.

 

Buy your bowling balls from whoever you wish, but this "selective patriotism" is old news. Frankly, if I am bowling against you, I'd prefer you be throwing something other than a Brunswick product.

If it's still a "hot" topic, it's because the manufacturing of higher end bowling balls is still largely centralized in the USA.  

 

Bowling balls are one of the last bastions of manufactured goods where you have a real choice of buying domestic production. Unfortunately, we don't for most of what we buy. For instance, I'd have to look long and hard before finding consumer electronics, much less clothing, manufactured in the good old USA.

 

For some people, it's a real issue and part of the purchasing equation. For others, it isn't. Whatever. It just gets tiresome seeing bowling balls compared other products that are only manufactured oversees. It's an apples and oranges comparison. At least be honest in the discussion.

I understand the argument (bowling balls vs. electronics, etc.) seems to be an apples to oranges comparison. I'm not trying to make the argument that way, except that some people's patriotism seems to be rather "selective".   What I do have a problem with is the attitude that if something is not make within the borders of the U.S., that somehow it's an inferior product.
 
We are part of a world wide economy. Like it or not. The 2nd largest economy in the world belongs to China, and Japan is 3rd.  Had Brunswick moved manufacturing to Japan or China would the same people be so vocal? I doubt it.
 
What if a Chinese company buys one of these "American" manufacturers?  In today's economy that idea isn't even a stretch anymore.  All companies exist to turn a profit (a novel concept, I know) and the day may come when one or more companies sells out to a parent from another country.  Things that were never even dreamed of 20 years ago are happening right before our eyes. Never say never.

Whatever manufacturing problems Brunswick may have had when they first moved to Mexico seems to have been fixed. From what I can see on the lanes, the current crop of Brunswick balls seem to be first rate. I'd hope perceptions of quality wouldn't come into the decision equation.

 

To your point about the fate of current domestic bowling production, it could very well be bought up by the Chinese or other foreign entity. It will be a sad day if/when it happens.

did anyone ever stop to think about outsourcing? with the economy is the dumps, it probably got too expensive for Brunswick to operate in the States.
I am willing to bet they just outsourced their manufacturing one because everything is cheaper in Mexico (labor and payroll) and two because the US Economy is garbage right now.
regardless of where they make the equipment, the balls are freakin amazing!
I cant wait to try DV8 as well

Well that is disappointing. I banned Brunswick for this reason.  I was 18 in 1992 and voted for Perot who was against Nafta which also lead to the demise of my job and company in the late 90's. Of course my favorite president Reagan bears responsibility for the free trade agreement laws now which is why much is made in China. Bush didn't give a f about this and admitted it on a debate in Kerry stating "education is the answer" and Obama a a socialist cook. Hopefully our trade and tax laws will change under a new administration along with fair trade.
