279 with my New and IMPROVED Threshold!
« on: September 18, 2006, 01:48:13 PM »
After getting this ball and throwing it I was ready to sell it.  It was really burning up on me, and I figured I would never see enough oil to use it.  I even listed it on eBay once, but took it down because I loved the way the ball looks and I had worked out the thumb hole just right

I talked to Steve (tekneek, I think) and he suggested to change the surface to 2000 Grit Abralon.  What a great idea!

Tonight I started with my Absolute Inferno and go 207, 213...switch to the resurfaced Threshold...XX9/XXXXXXXXX-279.

This ball hits like nothing I've ever thrown before.  The 9 pin count I left was 100% operator error.  I threw it on Saturday night in a mixed league, and the lanes, plus the condition, I've never seen a ball REV up so much in the midlane like this one does.  Then it is just violent when it hits the pins.

I have never used a Dyno-Thane ball before, but I won a ball raffle and someone suggested it...so I took it.  It cost me $30 drilled with grips and a slug.  I then had it resurfaced, and the guy didn't even charge me.  Talk about the best DEAL ever!

This ball is definately a winner, and as much as I hate to say this, has taken over as the best, hardest hitting ball I've ever thrown.  Sorry Brunswick and the Ultimate Inferno.

Thanks for reading.

I took mine down to 2000 as soon as I got it and have bowled my 2nd 300 and a 290. Ball is so versatile at 2000.

May I ask why it was resurfaced? Did you get it used or something?

No I had it resurfaced.  In the OOB cover, it was way too much for my game and kept burning up.

With the 2000 grit...it doesn't burn up and does everything I want it to do...

I see where the confusion came in.  I won this ball in a raffle, drilling was included.  So I didn't buy it used by someone else.  It was brand new, but came to my door drilled for me.

I tried mine in box, at 2000 and at 4000.  On the higher volume pattern I first tried it on the ball wouldn't pick up enough at 4000.  However, on normal house shots I could see the need to polish the ball...much like I had to do with the Centrifugal Mass.

If people would just look at the specs and pick the correct ball for the shot they want to use it on, then you wouldn't be disappointed OOB. You can't always just get the "Latest and Greatest" ball out and expect it to be usable on any and all conditions.

Don't get me wrong, I have a spinner and enjoy experimenting with cover adjustments, but I don't buy a HEAVY OILER for a medium-light house shot. This ball does exactly what it was meant to do OOB on the CORRECT CONDITION!

Legend I realize that you are much wiser than I am.  I got this because it was $30.  I won't see enough oil to use it OOB, so I resurfaced it.  It works..so what's the problem here?

You just proved my point. You said you will never see enough oil to use it OOB so why did you pick that particular ball? You won a raffle and could have picked a ball to fit the condition you bowl on right OOB.

I understand what you're saying, but in my experiences, I've had better luck with Heavy Oil balls that I've resurfaced.  It's all personal preference really.
