Bowling Vocabulary Help!!
« on: May 03, 2004, 07:01:53 PM »
Hey everyone!

I'm new here, I just got a memebership recently. However, I soemtimes have difficulty with some of the terms which you guys use on here. I'm a junior bowler and would like to gain as much knowledge on the sport as possible. Please explain what some of these terms mean if you could.
-tweener
-stroker
-mids
-backend
-the board number system, like how it works, what this means...etc
-length
-etc. Any addition info which anyone wants to add which i may have left out would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help with a somewhat ignorant bowler!

Welcome. Your quest for knowledge is refreshing. My suggestion is read, read, read. Several of the ball manufactures have excellent web sites that explain the terminology you're asking about. Here's but a few that are pretty good, ebonite.com, brunswickbowling.com, and beyondbowling.com
Look in their ball drilling and technical support menus, the beyondbowling.com web is written by a Gold Level coach withs lots of great articles and insight. Rules and regulations can be found at bowl.com
If you then have some specific questions ask'em here and we'll try and get you an answer. jim
