Complete Dyno Thane Arsenal
« on: April 21, 2005, 03:01:01 PM »
I wanted to start this topic because it's been mentioned several times that the Dyno Thane line of balls should be looked at as an "arsenal", but really there's too many balls to carry all of them unless you take 2 6-ball rollers ... so to set the record straight, let's list the best balls to fill out a complete arsenal right here for everybody to see that is wondering where each ball should fit.

What would you list for this? To cover Heavier Oil down to Drier Oil... It's probably best to keep the arsenal at around 4-5 balls to not get people confused with a bunch of overlaping equipment.

For FLOODS, I've got a AMF TNT sanded to about 320. And then my next ball down is the Thing Lives sanded to about 600-800 and then my Energy is next. Wouldn't the Energy go directly under the Thing Lives?

I'm guessing a complete arsenal would start with the Thing Lives and end with the Barrage?

I'm thinking the Energy would go right under the Thing Lives and that maybe the Crisis Pearl would go right above the Barrage?

But would you go from the Energy directly to the Crisis Pearl or would you put another ball right in between there?

Or would you just skip the Energy all together and go from the Thing Lives down to something else?

I don't know... but I'm almost positive that the Thing Lives would be 1st and the Barrage would be last.

PS... If possible, list some drilling's and coverstock prep for each ball also. The Energy comes kind of dull-ish out of the box so I'm guessing that ball's designer (new guy) thought that this coverstcok prep would better suit the Energy than a higher polished coverstock (I'm wondering why this is though, out of curiosity?)?

New Guy? Other Guy? Anybody?

Thanks!

How about this line up:

1.) Thing Lives
2.) Energy
3.) Vendetta Pearl (the new one)
4.) Crisis Pearl
5.) Barrage

But I wonder just how strong the Vendetta Pearl is? Some are saying that it's strong. So that makes me think that if you are using the Energy and all of a sudden it starts to go high... that switching to the Vendetta Pearl, that maybe it would still be too strong also? What do you think?

And just how strong is the Crisis Pearl? Does it compare to the original Sonic X Pearl? I've e-mailed a few guys and I'm getting mixed feedback. Is it possible that the Crisis Pearl could be longer than the Sonic X Pearl and also weaker on the backend too?

OR

1.) Thing Lives
2.) Vendetta PEARL ... or Black Vendetta (with polish)
3.) Crisis Pearl
4.) Barrage

I know nothing about the Black Vendetta so I don't know how strong it is, etc.? But I'm guessing that it would be too close to the Thing Lives even if the Black Vendetta had a little bit of polish... and also way stronger than the Crisis Pearl???

Thoughts???

1)Thing lives-pin beside ring cg out-light scuff

2)Vendetta Maxx-Same drill as Lives-Light polish

3)Vendetta Red-pin in palm-box finish

4)Vendetta Pearl-pin above ring-box finish

5)Crisis origional-pin over ring-highly polished

6)Plastic spare ball

1-6 is my current arsenal for tourney, sport and pot bowling

2,3,4&6 is my four ball arsenal for league

I have an all Vendetta arsenal for THS and not been shut out this year.

I bowl mostly fresh moderate to long oil THS stripped backends with no real ob unless you cannot rev the ball.I can play a variety of positions with this gear from the twig (Crisis)to deep inside(Thing Lives).

in the closet
Anamoly-replaced by Lives

Vendetta solid-Red Vendetta a little more versitile

Vendetta particle-Replaced by Max

Vendetta particle pearl-This ball did not match up well with my game and was an overlap

AU79-love this ball on synthetics and it's in the bag then in place of Red Vendetta.

THS arsenal was put together for $400.Replaced a Lane 1/Brunswick arsenal with no loss of versitality.

If you are going to go all DT arsenal, this would be my suggestions.
The Thing Lives(Med-Heavy)
Element AU79(Med)
Vendetta Pearl(med-light)
Crisis Pearl(Light Oil)
American Eagle(spare ball)
I have not heard many good stories about the Energy, so if you can I would just wait until the High Energy is released. This Arsenal should cover all lane conditions, hope this helps.

Honestly from what I've seen of dynothane equipment a good aresenal would be this
1) Thing Lives
2) Element AU 79 (A guy on my team has this ball and I almost bought it I liked the reaction of it so much and it would still fit in the storm family)
3)Vendetta Pearl 2004
4) Barrage/Crisis

Thing Lives
Thing
Thing Returns
Crisis
Barrage

Adjust covers to create more or less separation, as needed.

IMHO, the Thing Returns is one of the best balls currently available, for medium/light oil.  Don't leave home without it!

Depending on where I am  going. If I know anything about the lane surface then I will make different choices..
for starters:

this would cover playing under control to power:
1. Vendetta Maxx (dull)
2. Vendetta Black (compound)
3. Thing Lives (compound)
4. Vendetta Black (1200 grit polished)
5. Vendetta Pearl

Next I would go to this arsenal to try for instance pba conditions

1. Vendetta Maxx (compound)
2. Thing Lives (compound)
3. Vendetta Black (600 grit shine)
4. Energy (compound)
5. Crisis pearl

then there are the combinations of balls for the the house shpts around town:

1. Vendetta Black (600 grit shine)
2. Vendetta black (2000 grit shine)
3. Vendetta pearl
4. Energy (6oo grit shine)
5. Vendetta pearl

with a switch out of one of the blacks for a crisis pearl depending on the house.

One of the things we must all remember is that no matter how many balls we hae. If we can not match up the surface (first) and layout (ball, drill and handposition) we are dead in the water...

least but not last ...My Barrage would fir in all arsenals as a ball that I would carry if I was using 2 3xrollers........it is my baby along with the V-Black

If I had to grab 6 balls out of my D/T lineup to over most everything from 45 ft 32 ft THSs...

On longer lengths/heavier volume oil I'd take my Anomaly, 4inch pin-2-pap w/pin under ring 45 degree box finish (strong arc), on medium heavy oil my TL 3inch pin-2-pap label leverage box (hook set on lighter volumes/shorter lengths), AU79 stacked leverage balance hole pitched away(good flip with continuation especially on carry down, opens up easy shots), TR pin over ring cg kicked out so "imaginary MB" rests on VAL... balance hole zero pitch on VAL polished to 1500 (flip monster, deep inside line). Crisis Pearl, pin on gripline, cg negative, 2000 "imaginary MB" rests in track (total control on dry, drill pattern will give you pull room/hold area when nobody else has any)

and a spare ball... I suppose I could drill the guts out of Barrage (actually thinking about now that I am way into this post... )

Would this arsenal work:

1.) Thing Lives
2.) Energy
3.) Crisis Pearl
4.) Barrage

Could you go from the Energy directly to the Crisis Pearl... or would that be too big of a gap and you would need to put another ball right in between there?

I'm wondering how strong (and how weak) the Crisis Pearl is? And wondering if it would go above or below a Sonic X Pearl original (for comparison's sake since I know the Sonic X Pearl well)?

too big a gap. Basically the design purpose was to have a Vendetta line and a Max performance line.
Thus
1) MAxx
2) Black Vendetta
3) Pearl Vendetta
4) Crisis

Or
1)Thing lives
2) Energy
3) Pearl Vendetta
4) Crisis

add a BArrage and an AU79 to each and you'd have 2 sets for travel or house and any combination for unique conditions.

Ranking the balls by our testing and these are our opinions not gospel

1) thing lives
2) Maxx
3) energy
4) Au 79
5) black vendetta
6) pearl vendetta
7) crisis pearl
8) barrage

any combination of odd or even would work. That's how I see the line. Adjust surface to create bigger gaps.
I won't suggest drillings because of past experiences on this sight where we were accused of giving wrong recommendations based on the info we were given and since the ball did not perform as expected it was our fault.

I can handle most leagues with a four ball bag:

MAXX (box) if they are a little tight and I have to go with the boards
Energy (very light polish) normal oil pattern
Blue Pearl Vendetta (box) if the lanes are hooking a little too much

For tournaments, I bring the emergency tote:

Thing Lives (box) for a flood
Crisis (box) for the Sahara

I think a complete arsenal has to begin with the Thing Lives and end with the Crisis (or Barrage if you have a whole lot of hand) and then fill the middle in with personal preference.  The balls are all drilled pretty much the same (stacked), except the TL drilled to roll up a little sooner and the Crisis drilled to go a little longer.  The balls in the middle - let the core and the coverstock differentiate them.
