DT 44 Magnum Affirmation
« on: February 17, 2007, 04:37:34 AM »
As many of you know, I'm the leader of the 44 magnum bandwagon.  I think this is the best ball every made as far as midlane, readability, consistency, and hit.  I just purchased and drilled a smashtime pearl, and a Paradigm and I can't get myself to use either one because the two 44's I have work much better on EVERY condition I bowl on.  I think I may just buy a couple boxes of 44's and throw them the rest of my life!  Consider Long Roller/44 Magnum as chitown/Doom

Long Roller,

The 44 Magnum matches perfectly for my game.  It is not the best ball for a flood or dry lanes, but is almost unbeatable on everything else.  Great midlane, readability, consistency, and monster carry.  I am definately going to buy a couple more 44 Magnums.

shane, i have a question for you.  i had a 14 lber. i got from a guy who tests balls for 2 or 3 games then writes a review.  his span is the same as mine and i like his drill pattern as well.  i threw mine about 6 games and averaged about 225, then it got stuck in the ball return at beacon bowl and ate it up pretty bad.  the pro shop resurfaced it and got all the gouges out but when i went to throw it afterwards, it didn't seem to have the same bite as before.  i read other reviews that said dynos actually work better after you get about 20 games on them to get a track on them.  i haven't bowled in 12 months because of 4 shoulder surgeries but i should be ready to go in about 8 weeks.  can you give me some tips on how to get it back where i had it?  i also like the zr40 too for the drier lanes.  i thought i was the only one throwing these balls in south bend.  any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm guessing the shop shined it up too much, so it would look pretty...

This ball acts drastically different with the different coverstock preps.  I would take it back to the pro shop and have him hit with 2000 abralon and it should be close to where it was before.  I have one at 4000 polished drilled the exact same way as one that is 2000 abralon (OOB) and it goes about 5' further down the lane and 5 boards weaker.

As far as breaking these balls in, I love them from the first ball I throw.  I don't see a breakin period with these.

Why do some people do that?  A teammate gave his well-used Freak to another bowler here to resurface and clean and got it back shiny as all get out.  The OOB surface on that ball is 1200-grit sanded and while it wasn't 100% in box condition after several hundred games, it certainly wasn't polished.  Still can't use it much of the time.

Unless you are very specific with what you want on a ball,...and the pro shop 'guy' is listening to what you say, you can get anything on your ball. Know what you want, be specific, watch if they'll let you,..or you can get anything...shiny always looks good,..yuck.

I think a lot of times if you don't ask, they will make it "shiny" because a bowler that doesn't know much will think that it looks "purdier" shiny and will feel that you did a good job resurfacing it.  Also, when you throw a ball for a ton of games that was originally a dull surface, the surface tends to get a little shiny.  If the pro shop operator doesn't do any research, he may be confused and think that OOB is supposed to be shiny.  I saw the opposite of that happen the other day when a bowler brought an old used ball to be resurfaced and the operator brought it back to a dull OOB and the bowler was convinced that he made a mistake because it was "shiny" when he brought it in...
