Dynothane and Columbia???
« on: June 12, 2006, 06:30:14 PM »
The guy who orders equipment through the college I go to, just called his distributor the other day (he was checking on a pair of dynothane shoes) and he was told that all shipping has been stopped from the Dynothane warehouse because dynothane and Columbia were merging? Has anyone else heard anything about this???

I know this has been out there for a while, but it just seems funny to me at the USBC tournament, the Dynothane balls are in the Storm booth. Would have figured Columia would have taken them to their booth by now.

I think they just announced collaboration in May. Might take some months until you will see new balls under the changed banner.

It's not a merger, DT didn't buy Columbia.  DT has been having their balls manufactured by Storm for a long time now, but with the 44 Magnum, Storm couldn't give them the production capacity they needed in the timeframe DT wanted.  So they switched.

Future DT equipment will be made by Columbia, current DT stuff that's made by Storm will probably continue to be made by Storm until it's discontinued (which, judging by a recent discontinued list, is almost everything).  Columbia doesn't have access to DT technology like the Soaker coverstock, so you won't see a Soaker-covered Action.  Nor does DT get access to Columbia's technology, so there won't be an epoxy Vendetta.

Search the last few weeks on the DT forum, you will find more info than you ever wanted to know.

Shelly,
I think you're a little off the mark on this one. Storm owned Dynothane and sold it to Columbia. If Dynothane was just using the facilities of Columbia why would Columbia offer him a job?

Storm didn't own DT, not in the same way they own, say Rotogrip or how Columbia owns Track.  They manufactured balls for DT.  Where did you hear that?  It's never been the impression I've gotten from Phil.

As for the job, I don't know how that works or what the reasoning was behind it.

we will never know the true implications of the "strategic alliance", at this point I really could care less as long as the D/T product line remain as solid as they have been and continue to have the best customer service and product in the market place. What goes on behind closed doors are done for a reason, its knowledge we do not need to know and will remain that way.

Thanks for the responses guys,  So it is true, should be a good thing for both companies I would think.  I did a quick little search on this before I posted it and found nothing, but I guess I didn't go back far enough in the archives, sorry bout that.

Shelley,

I thought and was led to believe the same as you did. Now, I believe you and I were misinformed. Live and learn. makes no difference. I still like the way Phil is directing the D/T company and the balls he makes/designs/is responsible for bringing to market.

American or any business/corporate relationships CANNOT be viewed is the same light as we view personal, and family relationships.

I'm sure Phil sees no reason to "try and fix something that ain't broke" we'll see soon enough with a new Element being released in the very near future. Sent you a PM regarding the Zr ragnrk.
