Dyno/Thing vs Br/Inferno
« on: August 20, 2003, 09:59:28 PM »
I bought the THING later part of the winter season, love
the movement I get.  I have frowned on Brunswick's
equipment for a while, but anyone I see throw the INFERNO,
this ball seems like a true monster.  Can someone tell if the INFERNO
was suppose to be a more aggressive ball than the Dyno's THING?

The Thing, as much as it moves, it a much more even moving ball. The Inferno has a very low RG and underneath its polish is a 400 grit finish, that makes the ball fairly flippy. I guess that would make the Inferno more aggressive if you mean hook more overall.

Thanks. Charlest.  For some unknown reason, the house I
bowl in NY, is laying out an abnormal amount of oil,
for them.  I have seen my THING skid a little more than
I would like. The pro-shop owner and his team mates have
been killing the shot with the new-er RAGING INFERNO. Just
looking to get a comparison to a more aggressive equipment.

ALternate drillings and different hand releases may help. I think the Inferno may handle slightly more oil, but not a lot as it is still highly polished. The very low RG also helps, as it revs up sooner. The difference exists but should not be huge. Wait for other opinions. But local use far outweighs typed opinions.

In my opinion, the Thing and the Element (and the Vendetta Particle) are better balls.

The Inferno is good if (1) you have loads of speed or (2) if you have a lower rev speed ratio with reasonable revs.  Unless you have good speed control, it can be difficult to find the right reaction to carry.  Oh, it'll hit sometimes, but if your revs are up and your speed is not commensurate, you'll have minor over-unders that make will make you think you are playing with I3s (pings).

If there is more oil out there, you're better off (a) dulling down the Thing, (b) getting and dulling an Element (better) or (c) getting a Vendetta Particle -- if you have a higher rev/speed ratio.

In my opinion and experience (and the experience of one of my teammates).  Loads of people love the Inferno, but with the above limitations.
