Heavy Oil
« on: October 02, 2003, 07:45:16 PM »
D/T fans......or Phil of course

D/T is getting a lot of praise here, and personally I think they have great stuff , i.e; soaker cover, etc....

However, when looking over the arsenal.....there really isn't anything specifically slated for heavy oil.  The Element and Vendetta Particle say they "could" handle heavy, but out of box the heaviest ball is for med-heavy lanes.

When do you think a true heavier oil ball will be released....if any ?

Going back to this upcoming 'oil ball'....

I'm only a Joe bowler so what I'm going to say below is my personal opinion, I don't have or expect any further info now other than sit tight and wait for more info from D/T website like New Guy suggested..

Facts: The following were the release date of D/T balls since the Vendetta:
Vendetta                   07/02/02
Element                    09/12/02
Vendetta Particle          10/29/02
The Thing                  02/24/03
Vendetta Black Soild       06/24/03
The Thing Returns          09/25/03

The soonest release from one another is two months and longest is four months.
With Christmas coming, it would then make sense to either:
a) bring a new ball out beginning of Dec (two months time - earliest) so people can buy as X'mas presents
b) wait until after the New Year in end of Jan (four months time - latest) after people have recovered from spending in X'mas.

Personally, I think option a) is a better option as more and more people around the world use credit card nowadays. They might end up with overspending before X'mas and therefore takes a good few months to pay off their credit card bills therefore have no extra money to spend on new bowling gear.

Prediction: A super hooker being release early December
then next one on Mar/Apr.

Hey Guys 2 comments. 1)I have no idea about those face things so I don't us them. Ususally I grab 10 or fifteen minutes a day to give input. So let me slide on adding icons or whatever they are called.

Fair enough......you don't have to USE the icon, you can make them too, semi colon and a right hand parenthesis =

The problem with the VP in heavy oil is that it, like the old EZ Money, is best when it can be angular.  Truly heavy oil balls should not be very angular, they should be arc-y.  It may be a stronger or weaker arc, but they can't be "flippy", its just too hard to control the breakpoint on truly heavy oil.    Thus, the VP is not the best ball on heavy oil that is carrying down, which is generally what you see after a game or two.  On medium heavy oil, the particles go through the breakdown and carrydown and tame the reaction on the backend so that the ball is strong but useable.

Now, I only rarely see appropriate conditions for a "heavy" oil ball.  What most people call heavy is really just what I would call medium to medium plus,  while what most folks I bowl with think is medium is actually medium light to light.  That is because the average bowler throws hard with relatively few revs or with a high speed to rev ratio, so heavier or longer oil is a real problem.
