Heavy Oil
« on: October 02, 2003, 07:45:16 PM »
D/T fans......or Phil of course

D/T is getting a lot of praise here, and personally I think they have great stuff , i.e; soaker cover, etc....

However, when looking over the arsenal.....there really isn't anything specifically slated for heavy oil.  The Element and Vendetta Particle say they "could" handle heavy, but out of box the heaviest ball is for med-heavy lanes.

When do you think a true heavier oil ball will be released....if any ?

I agree Husky, and I was hoping just to get an idea...I just like to stay on top of things so to speak....

I was wondering if it would be another THING...or a particle Element ??

As big a fan of Dynothane stuff as I am, there is a hole in my arsenal. The Vendetta Particle is fine on medium heavy oil with cleaner backends.  Heavy oil or glazed backends it just won't quite turn the corner.  The Element really doesn't work on heavy oil or dead backends.  Now this is not a major problem, because I don't see really heavy oil or dead backends that often, but it would be nice to have something like the old EZ Money or a truly heavy oil ball.

Phil, thanks!  Great info.....with all due respect, a big hooker doesn't necessarily mean an oiler and vise versa....so I'm just going to assume it's an oiler so to speak because of the topic of my post..........yes ?

It was a joke, playing off of Mojo's response. If any one shares more info with you guys in the industry than I do I'd like to meet him.I also give you all the info I can realistically give and still maintain a competitors edge. Many times the guys on this site push a bit too hard for info that's when I simply do not respond. Understand I'm in the business of developing great product and selling balls, why would I not share all I could if it would help sell balls. But I do have to have some sort of buffer between giving info, tipping the competition and offending readers who feel they have a right to know everything before we are ready to divulge it.
I do by the way have a great sense of humor and like to be sarcastic at times. I also like to joke around with the guys that support us. I hope you were not offended by my comments if you were than I apologize and will avoid joking with you in the future. By the way I'm to old to get snippy. I would just not respond.

Phil, thank you for telling us about the oil ball you are working on.  It lets me know not to go spending money elsewhere.  Also, I don't see other CEOs on this board or as open as you are.  I'll post what I've wrote to you directly:  right now, you are making the best stuff out there for the better bowler.  Period.  Some of the stuff you designed at Track was amazing.  Keep coming in, jerking us around and telling what you can -- and if we can't take an occasional joke, up ours.  Good job.

Lucky, I agree, Phil is very direct and to the point, I guess the only thing I can see is sometimes when you don't use a face, a comment can be taken the wrong way.....he didn't use a face, and I took it the wrong way!

Back to the Vendetta Particle, now that Jeff has calmed down ...

I have to believe Mr. Revs, AKA one P. Marlowe when he says the VP is not for heavy oil, as I don't ever face heavy oil here in NJ, but I have been trying to get different surface for my VP to work on medium-heavy oil. I sanded it to 1000/1200 and have polished it up a bit to around 2000 and still can't get it to make a decent left turn. It drilled 5 x 5.5, with the pin above the ring finger and the sucker just burns up in the mid-lane like no body's business. I certainly at this point in time find it hard to believe one with either Marlowe's revs or my slower speed can't use it on heavy oil.

I'm gonna try to get the polish up to 2000 or 2500 and see what happens.

Yes, it is medium heavy oil and if I go from my usual 40-50 degrees of rotation to 90 degrees, then the sucker will turn the corner, but that's far too much work .... next time.

yes Charlest. I agree with what you said about the VP. I too find it hard to get a decent turn from the ball. It's drilled 4X4 and I've tried from 600grit to 1500 polish. The ball just seems to want to go straight(ok, a bit of curve). The only time it would turn is when there is good head oil and decent backend, even then it doesn't last long. I love all my other D/T balls but I have to say my VP tends to stay in bag most of the time. When this next 'Thing' comes out - 'big hooker' (as per new guy), I'd probably ditch it.

charlest, if you took the time to read what I wrote to Phil you would have seen that it was 2 fold....a little irritated if he was serious, but absolutely NOT irritated at all if he was kidding....he was kidding, I acknowledged that clearly, ....so what's the reason for your comment ??

I have heard/seen that about the Vendetta Particle before...i.e; charlest, Mojo and Phillip Marlowes discussion......

By the sounds of what Phil hinted at......I think what they're working on will fit the bill...........
