Help me pick a DT ball?
« on: January 20, 2006, 01:32:16 PM »
I'm getting a new ball for my Birthday this weekend, and I'm considering getting a Dynothane (my first!). I'm a stroker with medium speed and I like to play up the ten board, but can adjust when necessary. I'd like it to fit between my V2 Power and Uturn Pearl. I'd also like it to be capable of handling carry down, as I usually start with the V2 Power and need something for when the shot starts to break down. I'd actually like something that will just get down the lane further than the V2 Power with a strong move. I've tried a Smokin Inferno thinking it would be just the ticket, but I can hardly get it to wrinkle on anything heavier than light-medium.  Any ideas?

Try for a Centrifugal Mass, and give it a length drilling....shouldn't have nayproblems throwing it on fresh oil or carrydown

try a vendetta sniper; should fit perfectly, in hook amount and oil handling ability.

its particle pearl, dull (2000 grit matte finish) cover will handle some carrydown, depending on drill and personal rev rate, while still providin length plus decent degree of lane bite at the backend. the cover can be modified with scotch-brite pads as necessary.

it's not their famous soaker coverstock, but it is probably the best fit for your stated desires & you'll save money.

(please excuse lack of capital letters as i am typing with one hand.)

For med to heavy oil - CM excellent ball very forgiving, but you need head oil.

Sniper is one of the most versitile balls made, will handle med oil with a very controllable backend, great ball for most house shot.

I'm actually looking for something to use when the heads start to dry out and the shot breaks down.  By the end of the second game, my V2 Power is reading too early , burning up and hitting weak.  I want something to go to then.

Element AU79 or High Energy, or Vendetta Sniper.  The first two are Pearl/Solid Mixes, the Vendetta is a Pearl particle.  The AU79 should work well, and handle some carrydown.

I don't know how much of a difference this makes, but I play in a house with old wood lanes that start with a heavy volume of oil but transition and dry out quickly.

One important set of factors is one, the current ball you're using (V2 Power, for you), two, where you move when you try to play the transition with this ball, how it doesn't work when you move deeper and how any other ball you have tried does not work for you in this transition.

How much the heads dry out and what type of ball you need can be revealed by such info.

I'm not REAL comfortable swinging the ball that much.  I just don't seem to yet have the game to do so, as if I throw it inside out it doesn't have enough oomph to get back to the pocket strong.  How I play the transition is move in a bit to try and chase the oil line, and though I can adjust to get the ball back to the pocket, it seems to burn up and hit weakly, leaving stuff like the 5-7 or 8-10.

that indicates the inside (wherever you're playing) is either still too dry or the ball is just not retaining enough energy or some combo of both. In general, what is needed is a weaker ball, (not necessarily weak ball) which most of us have been suggesting, but usually also a weaker ball with a milder (read: higher pin position or longer pin-to-PAP position or both) pin position.

So, if your current V2Power had a 4" pin-to-PAPposition, the go-to ball might need a 5"pin-to-PAP position, depending on what kind of ball it is and how deep you stand to use it.

I was hoping to get something a little weaker than the V2 Power, but stronger than my Uturn Pearl.  When the V2 becomes too much, I try to switch to the UTP but that tends to be too weak and I have a hard time getting it to the pocket.  I think something between those two would be perfect, and I hope to pick something up that I can use for almost all three games in league play.

So, Stronger than the UTurn Pearl, and still want to play down and in is tricky without seeing you throw.

UTURN Pearl
Diff. .035
RG 2.5

Without getting overlap with the Power, I still think

High Energy (SOlid Pearl Mix)
Element AU79 (Solid Pearl Mix)
CM "Drilled Properly" (Soid pearl Mix)
Vendetta Sniper (Particle)

I Have a CM Drilled with CAP in Control Position, PIn 4" from PAP.  I can use it all three games in league, but I get pretty deep the third game.  My conditions sound close to yours.

Some time in the near future I'll try to get a video put together.    It'll be a train wreck, though!

Vendetta Sniper or Black vendetta with surface.
