VMaxx Question
« on: July 30, 2005, 06:09:20 PM »
In your opinions, "A VMaxx with a (fill in the blank) drill pattern will give the Storm Fear Factor with a 4.5in pin-to-pap, pin above ring finger and MB in the strong position a noticeably earlier and even look."

I have one of each of the Maxx and Sniper coming soon and looking for a more predictible look on longer heavier oil... The FF flips pretty good for a particle in medium oil, 38 to 40 feet.

I am inclined to let the Sniper get a 135 degree layout so I can have control of the pocket on the lighter AND flatter conditions.

However I need help on wet/dry conditions guys... My achilles heel is the fresh tournament condition. Once I get to the transition I am OK. I was like 250 pins higher in singles and doubles at the ABC Nationals if that tells you anything. It was embarrassing!

You are a Power Stroker so wouldn't a drill pattern for some length
- that also moderates flare - provide you a controllable path on Wet/Dry - get through the oil then not over-react on the dry?  I know some people drill for an early roll to avoid that over-reaction but with the right ball and a relaxed hand it seems to me you can get a controllable mild arc without having to build in rollout - but you still have a backend and some angle of attack - and you can come at it from the outside because it is a fresh condition.

As a Low-Power Stroker, even on the Thing Lives, with a control drill a fresh Wet/Dry actually seems like a relatively easy condition.  I'm presuming you aren't reving the daylights out of the ball, as a Stroker, you are just putting some speed on it, therefore the Power Stroker.

I don't have enough personal Wet/Dry experience with the H.Energy yet to validate that one but the H.Energy version of Soaker coverstock is supposed to be engineered to provide even better wet/dry transition and Dyno-Thane's claims are generally consistent with my experience (unlike some other manufacturers) so I expect that to be true.  My initial H.Energy experience suggests it will indeed have that consistent medium+ "baseline ball" reliability at minimum. (From the description, I haven't rolled it, the Sniper looks like a ball that should also be easily drillable to have a controllable, if firm, arc when it hits the dry.)

You are a more experienced bowler than I am Dave, so I'm hesitant to offer any comment, but since your question has sat here unanswered for a week I thought I'd put my two cents in.

Thanks... I am joining a Sport Condition League this fall to help me beat extremely snappy backends. I think I'll try a pin above and on grip line with a cg negative drill then for longer transitions on both... with the particle covers they should be fairly controllable. Just needed a nudge from someone out there.
