Crisis Solid-hooks a ton?
« on: May 10, 2007, 09:47:56 AM »
Anybody else find this ball can hook a ton with an aggressive drill? I bought one because it was listed in BTM with a 17 length rating.I think the only one longer was the neptune.I put a full roller drill(Pin 2" to grip center in a 7:30 direction) and can't believe how much it hooks.Just wondering if I should plug and redrill with a milder layout? Anyone else have any experiences with this ball?

                             Thanks,

SAND IT TO 1000 ABRALON THEN REPOLISH IT FOR MORE LENGTH, MORE HOOK THAN MOST WOULD THINK.

Mike,

Remember somefactors involved here -
1. A full roller's ball will hook earlier than a 3/4 roller/tracker.
2. The Crisis solid is a solid; they always hook earlier than pearls.

FYI I am surprised DT went with a solid and more surprised that most BTM and BJI tetsing revealed that the ball was suitable for drier lanes. (I have found, for me,) Solid Super-Flex is a strong hooking ball, no matter how much you polish it and no matter what core you put it in.

I also believe that the 7:30 drill for full rollers is the equivalent of stacked leverage for 3/4 trackers, a very strong drill. So you may not only want to adjust the cover but also redrill it. (I'm not that familair with full roller drills, but I know there's a weaker drill.)

I'd be inclined to sand it even weaker than Steve suggested (1000 grit), maybe even 2000 grit, then add a strong dose of polish.

I'm a stroker with a high track. Drilled mine label leverage. It hooks more than I expected. I keep mine polished and use a weak release.

I was also surprised at how much the solid hooked...especially compared to the pearl.  It really turned out to be a good medium oil ball though.

Thanks Guys for all the replies.I think I'll plug and redrill this one.Probably 5&1/2 pin to pap with a 75 degree backend. That would leave a lot of room for cover adjustments.

                                 Thanks again,
