The most versatile reactive ball on the market, the Vortex II, needed a companion. Something hot, on fire. Something to get through broken down heads and be able to kick it in down the lane. Shift into another gear. Well, turn on the Afterburner. Its Big Easyâ„¢ coverstock, pearlized and fortified with PET particles, allows the ball to be clean through the fronts. And, in conjunction with the medium RG, medium high flare domed R2 core, really haul some butt in the backends. Factory polished, this will be great for all styles when the lanes are medium to drier. Turn and burn.

I have this ball drilled with a 1" pin from the CG and drilled on the center line with the pin just below the bridge in fingers. This is a 5" pin for me. I've used this ball on medium oil and it gets down the lane and is not real over reactive on the back end with this drilling.

Drilled for a bowler with about 45 degrees axis rotation and some axis tilt.
Ball with 3.5" pin to PAP. 2 oz. TW. Drilled axis leverage, with cg on axis, pin under and close to ring finger. Dulled ball with green scotchbrite. Too early on roll and rolled out on fresh house dress. High shined with Black magic. Too much skid. Went back to green scotchbrite and lite shine with 800 grit polish.
This is a killer on a normal houseshot with some carrydown. Just watch the speed.

I have this ball drilled with the pin above the bridge and the cg kicked about 1 1/2" off the palm line, just above the center line. Weight hole on the PAP.
I have slow ball speed and would be considered a stroker.

I bought this ball to be a step-down companion to my Vortex II. It has been that and more. I can go to the Afterburner when the Vortex II begins to show signs of early roll or when it is just too much ball on the back end. I have been able to go to the Afterburner with a lot of success staying in relative the same spot. I lose nothing on the back end as this ball will turn the corner and hits very well. So long as there is some dry to help it turn over on the back, this ball is very good.

I would recommend this ball for medium to drying medium conditions.

My afterburner is drilled with the pin under the ring finger with the cg kicked to the right, and a weight hole on the val in the thumb quad this ball clears the heads real well and makes a good turn to the pocket but not real sharp. and this ball hits well. this ball is similar in length to the vortex 2 pearl but not as angular in the backend great ball when the 2 pearl is not carying because it is going too long. this is the first ball out of my bag most nights and i would give it a 9.75 out of 10 (i have still not found a perfect ten)

OMG< SIMPLE AS THIS IF U R A POWER PLAYER.....this is a must for you. Want to go ralatively up the boards, or swing out side on a fresh shot...you can do it..on a medium shot you want to be able to play any area by adjusting hand position....you can do it....on a burnt head shot...you want to be able to get skid in the heads and reatain energy for an incredbile pin carrying reaction, you can do it.....this post is as simple as that.

Not too qualified for a great opinion but.....

Bowled full fingered straight ball for several years and bought a used Afterburner with fingertips.. My average has gone from 168 to 195! in 2 months. This ball is great for me; I just stand on 20 (left foot) and hit the second arrow. Have bowled several 240+ games in the last few weeks. The best ball Ive thrown so far...first 700 series 04-16-04

A very predictable particle pearl for me, enjoyed much success with this ball before it started to lose its reaction, placed 5th (all-tournament) at the Leatherneck Classic collegiate tournament using this ball exclusively.

Very forgiving ball, very similar to my EMB XF. The Afterburner is punched up with the Pin an inch and a half above my bridge and the CG kicked out (3 in. pin). Gave it a very smooth transition from midlane to backend, hitting power was exceptional (better than expected) and again, ball was very forgiving. Came polished and had no success but then on the good word of a friend I put a little surface on the ball and WOW. Attempted to get the same reaction out of my v2 but had NO success whatsoever. The EMB XF is a more similar ball being the same type of coverstock (particle pearl). While I still used my Afterburner (before it died) it was easily my favorite ball and shot my high game (288) and series (746) with it. Ball has lost its intended reaction now and is taking up space in my basement.

This ball is one of the better balls I've ever owned. I actually found this ball on the rack, and got it redrilled for me. I have never regetted that decision. I've been able to use this ball no matter where I go. I bowl on sport shots on weekends tournaments and this ball comes through on house shots and sport shots alike for me. If its oily, I move right and it turns over on the head pin. On dry this thing takes off like no other in the back end. Despite what others have said I've had mine for over a year and it hasn't lost any reaction to it yet. Great ball for any level of bowler. Rating 9.5/10

This ball has probably not been used in leagues for months, but I still use it when the condition is right. I have had it for at least 4 years and it still works good. Never had to resurface it yet. The pin is around 2.5", 16 lbs. The ball is drilled 12:00 Leverage that gives it maximum hook and maximum backend. It rarely leaves 10 pins when it hits the pocket. I can bowl 220 to 250 easily with it. I bowled 268 with it awhile ago with it. Overall the ball is a very good particle pearl ball and I highly recommend on finding one if you can get it for pretty cheap.
