Magic
« on: March 08, 2009, 04:06:46 AM »
I got the Magic two weeks ago and have used it both weeks in league. Here are my impressions so far

Need - the ball does exactly what I need it to do I needed something that I could move further left with and open up the shot some. Winner, winner chicken dinner in this regard. This is 5-6 boards stronger than my Sauce. (Sauce is drilled pin below ring finger). This ball more than handles the oil that I have seen.

Carry - other than shots off pocket, the spare that I have shot at the most is the dreaded 10 pin. Now on most of the shots that I have left it, I felt that one was coming. (You know that feeling when you did not catch the ball well, or maybe sent it a bit wide and lost energy on the way back). But the worst two games so far with the ball were the first games both weeks. With the backends fairly fresh after 10 minutes of practice shots. The ball really seems to shine for me in the last two games. Typical moves are a board or two left as the lanes dry out. The carry from the deeper angles for this higher speed medium rev player is better than any ball I have previously had. Very happy here.

Durability - I am kind of a fanatic in this area. I clean what I use after every set with a spinner. I also wipe the ball down with a microfiber towel after shots. So far I like what I see. The ball has rings of oil on it after shots, and it seems not to soak up if you did not wipe it immediately. (After strikes I don't wipe it down until the next shot, lol). On spinning the ball, there is a fair amount of dirt - grime on the towel. I bowl at wood houses. The cover looks new after a total of 8-9 games.

Oh BTW the ball looks great. Mine is a great combination of gold, blue, and black. It was drilled 4 1/2 x 4. Which put the pin above the ring finger, cg just off the center of the palm, and the mb about 1 1/4" from the thumb.

I am surprised I have not read more compliments about this ball in the forum.

There sleeping on this ball, I have given many whoopins with this ball. Its probably the best ball I've owned hands down! Then again, my release is alot different too.. dont you just love this game.

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...some magic, some hot sauce, and a saw.. how can I loose?

P.S. I got 100 games on mine, still same reaction with no resurface or bath yet!

Yes, things have been very quiet about it. But I am starting to see a few more of them out on the lanes. It is an awesome ball.

Definitely a sweet ball. I got mine last week and shot great scores this weekend with it. A lot of people had no idea what the ball was or what it could do, but after I was finished shooting with it they were very interested in it.

I had to move deep on one of the shots and this ball had no problem getting back to the pocket and still carrying the corner pins.

BTM gave the ball a great review.  I expect we'll see more of these soon.

Shot 760 with it all 3 games of league migrating left, have many other league games over 230 with it and a 218 at nationals with it.

Best ball out there right now with the 2nd dimension and Pin Slasher right behind it, all are 9.5/10 for me easy.

A friend just drilled one and the Pro Shop owner who is on the Hammer staff told him the cover was good for 900+ games. I guess they are responding to the feedback that the Ebonite covers don't hold up.

Just passing along what I heard, have no idea if there is any truth behind it....

Well if the hot sauce pearl cover is anything like the magic, it looks to be pretty strong. The hot sauce is a very strong pearl, shot 273 with it ytdy on a burnt up shot that had 2 leagues over it and lots of open play.

I leave alot of back row pins with the Hot Sauce, it is good but nothing great for my game so far.

Too clean through the front sometimes for my liking, skated through the breakpoint a couple of times then dulled it for nationals to 2k. Now it is a better overall ball, would I run out and buy it no but better than alot of stuff out there for me.

Will the Magic work at Nationals for medium speed/medium revs with a surface of 1000 grit dull ?
or is dulling this skid/flip ball a bad idea ?

Thanks.

If they are putting out a heavy oil shot at nationals, then you may want to dull it up a bit if you want to have room to swing it vs playing straight up the boards. You could always polish it back up if its too much.

I'm loving this ball right now. Got mine drilled up with 4" pin over my ring finger and mb at 35 deg. I hit it lightly with a burgundy scotch brite pad for a little extra friction and it is a perfect fit between my Gamebreaker and Ntense levrg.  I've had this ball two weeks and my lowest set with it is 658.
Saturday I shot 763, and last night I shot 788. Nothing carries as well for me as this ball does.

Ahhh there are quite a few out there think the ball is special, I was thinking that I was alone lol. My first two sets with the ball told me a lot about it. It has been exactly what I wanted. Strong with great carry from an angle where I tend to leave weak tens.

Mine is OOB cover, but I might polish it a little to maximize the flip of it. Any suggestions for the polish?
