Alright, the RXS300 video is all put together now.  So now we've got basically my entire ball arsenal, a new Angular One video, and a new RXS300 Video all at:

The lane machine at our local bowling center is an old Phoenix 8-pad machine, so it doesn't tend to clean the backends well, put out that much lane oil, or consistently repeat a lane condition from week to week.

All factors in our low scoring environment.  Hopefully you can see the difference bewteen the layouts and get an overall perspective of the balls.

Hi there,

I think you'll see what I'm talking about in the Angular One videos.

First, look at the balls showing the Angular One going through the pins.  These shots were all thrown very well, and you'll see that there is 5-6 boards between the ball and the gutter at the breakpoint.

Also, in the overhead shots of ball #2 (near the end of the video), two of the four clips have the ball "nudging" out to the 4th-5th board breakpoint, and you can tell that the balls are quite a bit weaker and come in very light (although they do strike).  At our center, your breakpoint needs to be around the 5th-7th board downlane because we have so much friction in the lane surface and the pattern.  But I think you'll see how the ball really lays off in the shots missed just a pinch to the right.

With the RXS300, I was using a slightly softer speed with my highest axis rotation release.  The ball really skids a little too much for our "fresh" lane condition.  This may have caused you to see slightly more movement than you expected with my comments.

I think my boys from "inthezoneproshop" will back me up.  When we hit the fourth board at Royal Crest Lanes, it's usually 3 off the right.  I did it several times yesterday in practice.

Your point is noted though.  Next time in the SmashTime Pearl video, I'll be sure to get a few into the out of bounds to not only show it, but to show how the ball handles that spot.

Thanks for your input!

No problem,

You'll see in the next video I do that we do truly have an out of bounds at that 4-5 board spot.  I'll make sure to include it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Your angular one with the pin really high above the fingers really has some awesome pin action.  I can actually see a big difference compared to the pin close to the fingers.  I bet you get more strikes off the pin high ball compared to the other pin above the bridge one?

I always say there are "no bad bowling balls, just bad ball reactions."  Each of these balls have been fantastic for me, and I will probably end up drilling at least one more Angular One in another layout before it's all said and done.

At our home center, the Angular One with the very high pin matches up far better than the other one.  Because of our hang spot downlane, you don't really want to be too far inside with larger launch angles.  It gets you into trouble whenever you nudge that spot at the breakpoint.  Since the higher pin ball (Ball #2) allows me to play straighter angles, it matches up far better at our local center than the other ball.  I can assure you that Ball #1 with the lower pin is EXTREMELY good and matches up terrific at a different center I bowl league in.

Good observations, and I'm glad you were able to distinguish the differences.

Damn, ball #2 was really angular. I have never seen something like that before.

Like I said, it does tend to match up very well at the local house on their "league" pattern.  There are certainly conditions where it will appear much different, just like any other ball.  Hopefully you see the differences in the ball reactions and enjoyed the videos of both the Angular One and RXS300.  Thanks!

Sweet heh!

Hey, how many times do you see a right hander get it back from outside 5 in that joint?  I think it happened once, like 8 years ago or something.

Good to hear from you!

You do a lot of different things with the ball and it is most impressive (changing speed, axis, revs).  I can do those things too but cannot remain nearly as accurate when i go too far away with the shot i am comfortable with, i start to spray the ball everywhere....

But alas, my question is - ball v.s ball (the RSX300 v.s the angular one) which ball do you think is....

More versatile across a broad range of shots (frest, breakdown, carrydown, etc. i bowl on a 4 game set on crap wood so i looking for a ball i can stick with for a bit)

You obviously have thrown tons of ebonite equipment...  where do rank these two balls and which do you prefer?

Thanks a bunch....
Greatness

BZach - You know what I think of that pair.  I'm pretty sure you know where I'd throw that pair if I had the choice.  Maybe, just maybe, the decks got tightened and we won't have to watch corner pins jump a 1/2" off the stay standing up.  By the way, you didn't answer my question you lefty.

Greatness - If you're looking for some help on higher friction wood surface, I'd look to the RXS300.  The Angular One has a very aggressive cover and may be a little earlier than you're looking for.  While I'm sure you could get one to work, there are several other options, such as the RXS, that fit the situation better.  I don't know anything about your physical game, but the smoothness and the length you'll get from the RXS300 should keep you in play on your surface for your entire night each week.

Good luck!
