Pro shop owner suggested a Whirlwind as a benchmark ball
from Ebonite.  What do you guys suggest?

Thanks

Bill

I would totally agree with your proshop owner. Any time someone comes into our shop looking for a ball to use on everything, or a benchmark i tell them to look no further than the Whirl Wind. The solid reactive shined uo cover is mildly agressive to the degree that it clears the heads well and has nice mid-lane read and a coontrollable arcing backend (thanks to the bulb core). I drilled mine at first at label, but it just didnt agree with me so i plugged and redrilled to Pin over and between fingers and CG stacked in the Center of Grip. I did this about 1 month and a half ago, and i havent had to even pull another ball out of my bag since. Great ball.

My high scoring teammember is using an Ebonite WhirlWind.  Really like the reaction he is getting.  Good enough to get all the pins down, and generally will not over react on a (give me everything dry backend) house shot.  It's got all the qualities of being a benchmark ball. Always, seems to keep the ball in play.  Even though I'm a Roto Grip sort of guy, Ebonite has my attention with this ball.  Nice reaction to the ball.

My personal benchmark ball is the smashtime pearl.
I have a Whirlwind too and love it but for the volumes of oil we have in my area the smashtime pearl is a better benchmark ball.
Great midlane and control of the breakpoint and good hit.

Just my 2 cents

My Total NV fits the bill.  I can use it on anything but super dry or super flooded.  It even works well on sport conditions.

1. OverTime
2. WhirlWind

IMO, it's a personal choice, depends on the bowler as to which one.
