NVS Production problems?
« on: July 26, 2007, 02:11:05 PM »
I heard tonight that Ebonite was having a problem
with production of the NVS.

Anyone heard anything about this?

The problem is there is no bowling center that puts out enough oil to justify the purchase of the NVS.

No production problems with the NVS that I have heard of.

Wloo Bowler,
The "curves" on the chart are there to show the difference visually in ball motion for balls in the lineup vs eachother.

There is no accurate chart....as you mentioned the bowlers are different the lanes are different etc... the charts are there to show you a comparison of the ball motions if they were tossed by an identical bowler on an identical pattern.

I have a big beaf when it comes to the curves that ebonite publishes in their sales literature. Anyone that knows anything about engineering knows that you have to have a baseline to compare data. I would like to know what ball ebonite uses as a base line to compare the rest of their ball reactions off of.

For example I was looking thru the ebonite catalogue this afternoon and came accross the NVS and the Total NV curves. If you look at the NVS curve it looks just like the Total NV's curve last year (ie. the ball path is finishing thru the 8-9). A better example is to look at the curve for the Track - The Rising... This curve looks retarded! The ball path cross the arrows at 23 arcs out to about 5 and finishes thru the 8-9.

Now I know that this is marketing literature, and everybody knows that when it comes to marketing a product to the general public accuracy is not always a the biggest priority (for us ball whores "ball hype is everything"), but just once I would like to see an accurate ball chart. That being said I also know that no two bowlers are the same, no two lane conditions are the same, and no two surfaces are the same, but at least provide the information on the marketing literature describing the conditions under which the ball path was measured. If anyone in the industry has the ability to do this its ebonite with its ball tracking software (I can't remember the name of it right now, I don't think its even been released as of yet).

That's more than enough for now! Any thoughts?

I know what you mean about the curves.  Some of them defy the rules of physics, but it is all relative, what one ball will do when compared to another.  The only reason that one would use them is to see differences in cover and how that effects ball motion.  There are statistics to quanitfy how agressive a core is, but there is no such thing to determine coverstock strength.  The only thing that one could mention is the hardnes rating but that is obviously flawed.

I haven't heard anything about problems with the NVS in production.
