RESULTS: The ONE & Hot Water Treatment
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:46:11 AM »
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know the results after I put The One in a
pale of Hot Water for 15 minutes. I have two of them, but the one I dipped
in hot water is scuffed at approximately 800 grit surface. I decided to do
this, because of its' oil absorption capabilities as advertised.

Ball had about 35-40 games on it before the treatment.

When I came back after about 15 minutes, you could see the oil floating to
the top. I removed the ball and it was pretty greasy hehe.

I dried it off with a towel and emptied the bucket. Man you could smell the
oil. I had to wash the bucket with some detergent hehe.

Results on the lanes 30 minutes later during league:
After a few shots, I noticed a considerable difference overall.
The ball was reading the mids better and I saw new life in its' backend reaction.
I noticed a lot of flare as well.

I guess it is mission accomplished. I have done the Hot water treatment with some of my other equipment and it has worked well so far.

If you are hesistant to put The One in Hot Water, I hope this report helps you in getting a better picture of what happens during this process.

Take care everyone,
Ram

Ramtart--Did you also add some Dawn?

Yours results are basically the same I have found with DT balls with their "soaker" cover.

Hey Scott,

Funny thing. I didn't use dawn this time. I should've tried though.
What is the process? Should I put a few drops in the water or apply
it directly to the ball and then dip the ball in?

Thanks! Ram

I just use a table spoon of Dawn in a 5 gal pail of as hot a tap water that comes from the faucet.  Dump the ball in.

My DT Thing and TR have many, many games on them.  Same basic reaction as new.

I use a cleaning regimen of Legends ball cleaner after bowling to remove as much dirt and grime.  Then, hot water soak after 50 games.

I use Dawn cuz Phil Cardinale said that was what he recommended.  Simple Green can leave a film.

Do you have to stopper up the holes in some way, or what is the process?

I think the point is because if the water is hot enough, it will heat up the core.  And since the ball is made of different materials that expand and contract at different rates, it could separate.  Not sure if anyone has had that happen but it's the "better safe than sorry" approach.

I have had good results with all brands of balls in a hot water bath. I have also used the dishwasher.

I have never covered the finger holes and never had a problem with water left over. I carefully dry the holes and never use the balls the same day because a little dampness remains.

Well I know I have posted this before...

DISHWASHER!!!

it is way easier...   just make sure you turn off the dry cycle, and have the holes facing down, so they dont retain water...   wait about 12 hours for all the water to dry out.  Use regular dishwasher detergent, it is an excellent degreaser.  As far as the core sep,  never had it happen, and I have done this with at least 15 different balls from all companies except brunswick (I have never owned a brunswick ball) and I have been doing for over 5 years....

It definatley works...

Because some core are able to absorb water. Then in extremes of heat and/or cold, you get different expansion and compression rates from core and cover, which can lead to a build up of pressure, which can lead to  _____.

Let's face it- it takes 2 seconds to be careful and have the holes face up or cover or plug them with something, like waterproof tape. Why go throw all the trouble of trying to revivify a ball and then do something not smart.

just put it in the hot water. It's job is strictly to keep the oil in solution by breaking it up. just like it does for household grease and oil. Wipe the ball off immediately with paper towels or terry cloth towels.

KISS!

As hot as it will come out of the tap.  Not hot enough to ruin balls cover.

I still need to do this with both my Vapor Zone and The One. The one is starting to lose its aggressive backend but still out hooks everything in my bag.
