Surface for TNV on flatter patterns.
« on: February 19, 2007, 01:33:08 PM »
I just picked up a TNV drilled with the #1 drilling, for a long and strong reaction.  The ball works great on wood lanes and the couple of houses that have dry boards on the outsides.  However the house that I bowl at most, puts about twice as much oil outside 10, so there are no drier boards on the outside I can get the ball to kick off of.  The other issue here is that they dont put out a ton of head oil so balls without polish, even 2000 grit seem to burn up in the front and hit flat or lose their pop on the back ends.

With my med ball speed and med-low revs I do better here if I play a more down and in shot around 12-8, rather than playing deeper.  Ive struggled here trying to adjust the surface of my Black Widow on this shot.  With the drilling on it its too sharp with polish on it, goes too long at 4000, and burns up in the heads at 2000.  So I had the TNV drilled for a strong but arcing back end.  Im thinking my best bet here is to take the ball down to 1 or 2k and then put the polish back on it, to get it clean thru the fronts and a little more bite on the back ends.  However im also open to trying a different line or other surface adjustments.

thank for your time.

You have kind of answered your own question in your post but you could try some things now and in the future. You could try a pin down ball instead of pin up balls AKA the #1 Drilling etc. A pin down ball will react slower to the friction point and be a smoother reaction which should make you more able to experiment with some surface changes without the head burn. You could try working on being softer at the release point with your hand to help get the ball through the heads cleaner also, A certified coach or good pro shop operator should be able to help with this. You could make some pitch adjustments to help with this as well.
