Whirl Wind
« on: October 28, 2006, 03:49:12 PM »
I am getting the "new ball" bug.  They are holding a WWPB (Western Women's Professional Bowlers) ProAm in a few weeks.  I am bowling it.

They are offering a package where for an additional $60 I'll get the WhirlWind.  I ran it by my coach who said it was a good replacement for my PDW.
A friend recommended the SR300 to go with it.

Here's the question I have a Smokin Inferno we will be looking at drilling up.  If I get the WhirlWind, is it worth getting the SR300?  My pro shop guy said he wouldn't recommend it.  He feels it is too close to the WhirlWind.

I am planning to keep my V2 Strong, Viper, and spare ball but ready to retire the Hot Rod Pro Stock Pearl, Power Charge Pearl, and PDW.  Any suggestions?

JMO, but with what you are keeping, getting the WhirlWind, I think the SR300 would be a bit of a waste of money. I haven't see you bowl, but from what I've seen, thrown, the SR300 would be to much overlap with your current "keeping" list.  JMO.

IMHO the SR300 would be a lot more versatile than the WhirlWind, but they are both balls you'd consider when your V2 strong starts to lose too much energy to carry effectively.

V2 Strong
SR300 (more surface than OOB if needed)
Smokin Inferno
WhirlWind
Viper (above the WW if it's solid)
Spareball

I think you could manage without the SR300 if the SI was drilled to make up for that hole, but the above fits in a 6 ball roller quite well...

Thanks guys.  You pretty much confirmed what my pro shop guy said.  I am meeting with my coach tomorrow, and will get the last opinion from him.  I am feeling better about the WhirlWind and skipping the SR300.  Cost it is a better deal also WW $60 + drilling & inserts ($40) to SR300 $188 (I think that includes the drilling).

The Viper is the Lane#1 Purple Viper.  Richie kept taking it to use in North Carolina.

I don't think you should get the Whirlwind, especially for a ProAm.  According to Ebonite, it is only for entry level league bowlers!

My Whirlwind is a backend MONSTER.  It's drilled 5 x 3, with the pin above the middle finger and the CG somewhere below the ring.  I had to take this thing down to 1000 just to tame the backend, and it only tamed it a little bit.  This ball is very underrated, and it is worth every penny.

LOL Sometimes my scoring ability looks like an entry level league bowler

Exactly what my ProShop guy said.

I talked to my coach and he is all for my getting the WhirlWind and agrees with my choice of balls to retire.  As for an additional ball, he recommended waiting till we see how the Smokin and WhirlWind react in my hand, then see what is needed.

We're drilling the Smokin' stacked leverage and taking the shine off.  I get it Wednesday and I can't wait to see what it does.  I'll get the WhirlWind sometime after Nov 12th.
