WhirlWind ???
« on: May 31, 2009, 04:51:16 AM »
I was digging through the Ebonite website, looking for balls with the Light Bulb + Flip Block core (like the Crossfire I love) and came upon the WhirlWind. I had never heard of it and it appears to have the same core and coverstock as the Crossfire.

Seems strange that Ebonite would make two balls with the same components, perhaps their website is in error.

In any event, has anyone heard of or seen a WhirlWind ball?

And, I am still looking for a 14lb. NIB Crossfire.

TIA for any information.

best ball ive ever punched up on the lower price side. no honor scores with it but did average 248 with it summer 2006 big money league out here. and it payed for itself 20x. won plenty of money with that ball. i will post a pic soon of how i had it drilled

Just a color change to the coverstock to try and increase sales at the time much like Brunswick did with the Nemesis and Wizard. Was discontinued and eventually replaced by the original Clash which had a different coverstock.

I had one, it was OK i guess.  I drilled it pin up, no hole and it was very clean but didn't do much downlane, kinda a lazy arc.  I liked the overtime shined up and Blue Ice alot more.

A fantastic ball. I have 200+ games on mine and it still my "get out of jail" ball. If someone has or knows of a 15 NIB Whirlwind they are looking to get rid of, PM me.

The Whirlwind was a solid version of the Crossfire.

The Whirlwind has a much smoother break than the Crossfire.

I still have one and it is my "get out of jail card" for when the lanes are too jumpy or spotty.  I shot my first 700 series with it (247-258-212 = 717) on a night when next highest series in the league was a 625.

Actually, (even though it does nothing to contribute to this thread!) the original Clash has a different core than either the Crossfire or Whirlwind. The original Clash does not have the flip block on the top of the light bulb core.
