Xxxcel

My mom just bought the new Xxxcel.  I was wondering how she should get it drilled for max hook for heavy oil.

She has end over end roll with little or no hook.  She throws the ball 12-14 m.p.h. Right handed.

No. Isn't max drilling 3 3/8" from her PAP?

Max is considered to be 3 3/8", yes. The first thing you need to do is determine her pap. Your ball driller can find that easily if she has a ball with the track area slightly worn. Then you want to determine what you want the ball to do & on what lane condition. Go over the ebonite drill sheet with the ball driller & her speed consideration is very important. Also if you set it up max or even thumb leverage, if she uses it on anything to dry, the ball will lose all its energy before getting to the pocket. Best thing would be to discuss options with a knowledgeable driller who cares.

I'm not knocking your Mom, but , this might be a case where the ball is more than she needed. If she has an end over style, and  going to stick with that, it sounds , to me anyway, she/you wanted a 'hook out of the box' and that's not always the best thing.

IMO, a person's style, has to match up with the ball, to a point. If she is willing to change deliveries, then IMO, it's still to much ball, but it's a start. I have seen and heard of several folks that after getting a new ball, not set up for their delivery, they say the ball is a junker. Not always. I think the ball must match (somewhat) to the bowler. But, if that same bowler is willing to learn another delivery, then it's a start.

Your driller will be able, as stated above, to find her PAP and go from there. If you are wanting max hook potential, then the 3 3/8 pin to pap is the layout.
