xxxcel ?
« on: August 18, 2005, 04:29:01 AM »
What's the scoop with this ball.  I'm thinking of punching one up to play around with in leagues this season.  My most recent experience with Ebonite was hte primal instinct which was claimed to be a stronger ball, but wasn't.  How does the xxxcel rate?  It did seem to have gotten decent ratings in BTM for medium and heavy oil patterns.  Any comments or experience would be appreciated.
Thanks,

The primal was a bomb from the start, they kept trying to get the trimax extreme tweaked just right and didn't do it until the V2 Power IMHO.  Xcel series is a very good core and cover series so far.  XXXCel is the earliest and strongest overall.  Very strong reactive resin no particle load.  Every one of them we drill we shine up for people.  Its earlier than both the xcel and the xxcel.  It will handle more oil than both.  The xxcel is a few boards stronger in the backend than the xxxcel because its much more of an arch.  A very very versatile ball easily shines and out of box very agressive.

That's what I like to hear.  I typically polish most every ball to start with, unless I'm looking for a specific reaction...so being able to easily polish is a plus.  Do you think it is too strong of a ball for a medium-heavy league shot?  Equipment I threw most often on it last season was an apocalypse (1000 grit matte) and an absolute inferno...

If you shine it up it will easily fit that bill for you.  Remember though you can always scotchbrite down by hand so I would shine it up pretty good to start with.

reviews of the primal instinct were decent, yet it was a P.O.S.  So, I usually take them with a grain of salt...  I guess that should go for opinions as well...  but reputable BR members are a little different story...  regardless, not sure what it is, but equipment rarely gets poor reviews (Even in BTM..have you ever seen a ball rated at 6 or less for all three conditions???).  Yet, I can name several pieces that I would rate poorly on all conditions.

I have an XXcel, and a friend recently got an XXXcel. I underline what JPRLane1 stated: The XXXcel goes early in box condition, a very strong piece of equipment. My friend has his obne drilled pin over ring finger with the BOMB at 75° from PAP, and the ball MOVES... as long as there is enough oil out there. 4 games, and it burns up and loses power. But great to control, and revs up way powerful. Greta thing for medium to heavy oil!

Myself, I got the impression that the Xxcel can handle similar or a bit weaker lane conditions, and it can be kept be longer in play due to the polish. Nevertheless, the Xxcel needs oil, too, because it has so much traction.

In both, the modified Scalien core creates lots of flare and backend movement. You can consider drilling it rather weak, because these 2 balls MOVE like chicken on the run! Great stuff from Ebonite!

How strong is a XXXcel after polishing?  Does it create an insane entry angle?
