XXXcel question
« on: October 26, 2005, 01:20:19 AM »
I haven't seen much of anything of the XXXcel.  I see a lot about The One.  Did the XXXcel come out earlier in the year?  Or is it a ball that didn't get much of a look?

I'm going to drill one for heavier oil, but I'm not getting any feedback on the ball.

Appreciate any help.

Yes the XXXCel came out earlier this year and The ONE is brand new.  The XXXCel tested well at out Demo days but for most bowlers on a house shot it needs to be shined it def for heavy right out of box  For heavy the XXXCEL should be better than the one at least with box surface.  The XXXCel is reactive resin and strong core no particle and comes sanded out of box and is early and arching on oil.  The One comes highly polished and is agian reactive resin but a new formula and a very strong core.  The One does have a very strong MB although the overall shape is symetric.  We had a sneak preview show yesterday for The One and I was unable to attend and I am still picking my shop owner/ebonite staffer for all the details of it.  They are both veyr goodd balls just do different things.  To handle heavy the One definitely needs coverstock adjustment.  Also I overheard him say the One is super sensative to MB location sense this core is so strong,  I know that the XXXcel is perhaps a little more driller friendly.

The XXXcel came out several months ago. It's a great heavy oil ball. Mine works great, anyway, just don't always find enough oil for it, the XXcel fits more often for me, ( they don't always oil as heavy as they do at times ), but as long as you have the oil, I think you'll like that one.

Hey JPRLane,
The ONE is available to the Public now. My Pro Shop has it in stock.

Sorry, two questions for those that know

If The One is sensitive to drill, why is it sensitive and how should I ask the Pro Shop to drill The One?  I had a recommendation of 4 1/4 X 4 7/8.

Second question (yes I know that I said two questions and this is the third.

How should I drill the XXXcel to compliment The One?  Strong pin with the CG/Mass Bias kicked a little toward the PAP?  I want to carry the XXXcel but not if its extremely condition specific.

Thanks again,

The XXXcel, being a reactive, will still backend pretty hard (at least harder than most particle balls of similar hook potential) so you can probably get away with pushing the MB out towards the VAL a little bit and still have it turn.  My suggestion, if I was going to drill one, would be pin under ring, MB swung about 1 1/2" right of thumb, throw it, and then play with the cover if you need to.

As for The One, I would drill it how the drill sheet suggests, if you're looking for the "desired reaction" out of this ball, go with the pin above bridge, MB swung 3" right of thumb, weight hole 4" right and 1/2" up from the midline.  If it's too long/angular at that point, take the cover down to about 2000 grit abralon and try it again.  I would HIGHLY suggest sticking with the suggested layouts for this ball, Ebonite put a book together, if they didn't want you to use it, i'm sure they wouldn't have taken the time to gather all of the appropriate information.
